This dissertation investigates the complexities surrounding the protection of children's rights in humanitarian emergencies in the Small Island Developing States of the Pacific, substantiating itself in an interdisciplinary legal methodology, which incorporates concepts of human rights, development studies and practices of child protection. The central purpose of this investigation is to understand the risks and challenges that permeate humanitarian efforts in the aftermath of a natural disaster in the Pacific States, as Small Island Developing States, through the analysis of regional child protection systems and the principles and norms of international law. The study explores, in depth, the geodemographic, socioeco- nomic and environmental elements of these States, as well as the intersection between the current cli- mate crisis and the rights of children, as provided for in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Central to this investigation is the thesis of the interdependence and indivisibility of children's rights, since the realization of any of these rights is, fully or partially, conditioned on the realization of the others. |
