O contributo das escolas industriais no desenvolvimento regional: um estudo de caso

Abstract

Durante o século XIX Portugal demonstrava atrasos nos processos de industrialização relativamente ao resto da europa devido às lacunas que existiam no ensino ao nível elementar e técnico. O que os operários especializados aprendiam na escola não ia de encontro aos avanços que a indústria estava a sofrer. Por este motivo foi necessário desenvolver, introduzir e sistematizar um ensino técnico-profissional separado do ensino existente até então. Neste estudo, propusemo-nos analisar em específico a Escola Industrial e Comercial de Braga e o impacto que a mesma teve no desenvolvimento da região (Braga). Analisando assim as transformações que a escola proporcionou à região a nível económico, social e local. As escolas técnicas são extremamente importantes para o desenvolvimento de uma região, pois são estas que formam os jovens que mais tarde irão ingressar nos postos de trabalho especializados. O objetivo deste estudo é encontrar os parâmetros que irão quantificar o impacto da EICB na região de Braga e transpô-los num questionário que mais tarde será aplicado aos sócios da Associação dos Antigos alunos da Escola Industrial e Comercial de Braga. Para isto, foi realizada uma pesquisa suportada pelo método qualitativo, recorrendo a duas técnicas de recolha de dados, entrevistas semiestruturadas e focus group. No final, a análise permitiu responder à questão principal do problema” como quantificar o impacto que a Escola Industrial e Comercial de Braga teve na região?” e criar, então, o esboço de um questionário que irá permitir quantificar este impacto.

During the 19th century Portugal was behind the rest of Europe in the industrialisation process due to the deficiencies in elementary and technical education. The knowledge acquired by specialised workers at school did not match the advances that industry was experiencing. For this reason it was necessary to develop, introduce and systematise a technical-vocational education separate from the one existing until then. In this study, we propose to analyse specifically the Escola Industrial e Comercial de Braga and the impact that it had in the development of the region (Braga). Thus analysing the transformations that the school provided to the region at an economic, social and local level. The technical schools are extremely relevant for the development of a region, because they are the ones that train the young people who later on will enter the qualified jobs. The aim of this study is to find the parameters that will quantify the impact of the EICB in the Braga region and transpose them in a questionnaire that will later be applied to the members of the Associação dos Antigos alunos da Escola Industrial e Comercial de Braga. For this, a research supported by the qualitative method was carried out, using two techniques of data collection, semi-structured interviews and focus group. In the end, the analysis allowed to answer the main question of the problem "how to quantify the impact that the Industrial and Commercial School of Braga had in the region?", and then create the first design of a questionnaire that will allow to quantify the impact.
