A "memória" como fundamento e legitimação : Beatrix Potter e A história do Pedrito Coelho nas metas curriculares de português

Abstract

A inclusão de A História de Pedrito Coelho (1901/1902) na «Lista de Obras e Textos para ler e ouvir ler» das Metas Curriculares de Português para o Ensino Básico vem aproximar o texto (clássico) de Beatrix Potter dos pequenos leitores portugueses, participando do conjunto de leituras “mínimas”, que se tornam comuns a todos os alunos do 1º ciclo do Ensino Básico. No presente ensaio, analisa-se esta obra clásica, procurando situá-la na História da Literatura para a infância, a partir da abordagem crítica das suas singularidades técnico-compositivas e ideotemáticas. Distinguindo-se como parte-integrante de uma larga tradição narrativa que envolve animais com traços humanos (não raras vezes, de índole infantil), a obra de Beatrix Potter permite equacionar e reafirmar a relevante função da memória literária.

The inclusion of The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1901/1902) in the “List of Works and Texts to read and to hear read” of the Curricular Goals for Portuguese [Metas Curriculares de Português para o Ensino Básico] made young portuguese readers to come closer to the text (classic) by Beatrix Potter, participating in the set of "minimum" readings that become common to all students of the 1st cycle of basic education. In this essay, we analyse this classic work, seeking to place it in the History of Children’s Literature, from a critical approach to its technical and compositional as well as thematic and ideological singularities. Distinguishing itself as an integral part of a wide-narrative tradition that involves animals with human traits (not rarely, child character), the work of Beatrix Potter helps to question and reaffirm the relevant role of literary memory.
