América do Sul e Europa.
retoma a concetualização e as premissas teóricas do teatro lusófono, analisando algumas peças
This dissertation intends to discuss the existence of a singular theatrical and performative language, a characteristic of the countries, peoples and the cultures that share cultural data and partake of an analogous past and a common tongue that, enriched by its diversity, recognizes itself as one. We denominate that theatrical language as Lusophone theatre, a language that is the result of the miscegenation of performative, linguistic and cultural characteristics of the different intervening parties in the theatre production. The Lusophone theatre is characterised by a linguistic polyphony and by a cultural polyphony that, together, on stage, originate a neotheatre, that is to a new theatrical language that originates a new form to do theatre. Therefore, throughout this dissertation, it is analysed the creation and the dissemination of the Lusophone theatre under different perspectives. The first chapter discusses the concept of Lusophony, anticipating that this concept generates opposite positioning and raises several questions related with neo-colonialism. Moreover, this chapter positions the Lusophone theatre in the post-colonial theatre, due to its thematic and performative characteristics, as it incorporates indigenous cultural and linguistic characteristics, whilst questioning the hegemony of a certain type of Western theatre. Chapter II analyses the work developed by Cena Lusófona in favour of the promotion of the Lusophone theatre and of the theatre agents from and in the different countries in the CPLP, highlighting the several aspects of Cena Lusófona’s cultural project. As Orações de Mansata, by Abdulai Sila, is considered the highest exponent of the Lusophone theatre. The limitations caused by the intermittence of funding, among other constraints, are also considered. In chapter III, it is examined the way theatre festivals are promoters of the Lusophone theatre, in a way that they create a community united by common interests and objectives. Subsequently, some festivals that take place in three continents – Africa, South America and Europe – are explored. Finally, the fourth and final chapter, as reviews of the selected theatre productions, resumes the conceptualization and the theoretical assumptions of the Lusophone theatre, analysing some theatre plays under the conclusions on the thematic and performative characteristics of this type of theatre. |
