dc.description.abstractLithium-ion batteries stand out among the different energy storage systems, increasingly important in modern society. The separator membrane is one of the main components of battery systems, it is placed between the electrodes, represents the medium for the transfer of lithium ions and it is typically based on a polymeric membrane soaked with the electrolyte solution. This chapter focuses on the recent advances on polymer-based separators for lithium-ion batteries. It is divided by the processing techniques of the membranes, such as, solvent casting, electrospinning, surface modification and coating process. In addition, the recent advances based on natural and biopolymers are presented. Finally, the main conclusions for each membrane are presented, as well as the future trends in the area.por
