Deslocamento ativo no trajeto casa-escola em alunos de escolas do meio rural e urbano

Abstract

Estudos têm revelado uma realidade preocupante em nível de saúde pública mundial pela alta prevalência de inatividade física e comportamentos sedentários no quotidiano de crianças e adolescentes. O deslocamento ativo (a pé/bicicleta) no trajeto casa-escola assume especial relevância como uma estratégia de colaborar no cumprimento das recomendações internacionais do nível diário de atividade física e de estimular comportamentos ativos em crianças e adolescentes em sua rotina de vida escolar. Este estudo objetivou analisar os modos de deslocamento utilizados por crianças no trajeto casa-escola e identificar as principais limitações aos modos ativos de deslocamento de acordo com o contexto das escolas (rural e urbano). Participaram 268 alunos do 5º e 6º ano de duas escolas da região Norte de Portugal, sendo, uma urbana (148 alunos) e uma localizada em contexto rural (120 alunos). No geral, evidenciou-se que 15,7% das crianças se deslocam de forma ativa, essencialmente a pé, sendo que nenhum aluno relatou utilizar a bicicleta. O automóvel foi o meio mais utilizado para alunos da escola urbana (68%) e o ônibus para alunos da escola do contexto rural (68,4%). Em relação ao contexto da escola, os resultados apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significativas sendo que crianças que estudam no meio urbano se deslocam mais de forma ativa (22,2%) em detrimento do meio rural (7,7%), nomeadamente a pé. As principais limitações apontadas foram as preocupações em relação à segurança no trânsito e em geral durante o trajeto casa-escola.

Studies have shown a disturbing reality in global public health due to the high prevalence of physical inactivity and sedentary behaviors in the daily life of children and adolescents. Active commuting (walking / cycling) on the path between home and school is characterized as an opportunity to cooperate in the compliance with international recommendations for daily physical activity, and also promoting the acquisition of healthy lifestyles in this age. This study aimed to analyze the modes of displacement used by children in the home-school path and to identify the main limitations to the active displacement modes according to the context of the schools (rural and urban). A total of 268 students from the 5th and 6th grade of two schools in the northern region of Portugal participated in this study (148 from the urban context school and 120 from the rural context school). Overall, it was observed that 15.7% of the children moved actively, essentially on foot, and no student reported using the bicycle. The car was the most used medium for urban school students (68%) and the bus for school students from the rural context (68.4%). Regarding the school context, the results showed statistically significant differences, being that the children who study in urban area move more actively (22,2%) compared to the children of the rural area (7,7%), especially on foot. The main limitations pointed out were concerns regarding traffic safety and in general during the home-school journey.
