“Paulo has lower scores this year, because of emotional factors. With our [parents] help, he will be happy." This is a vote of the father of Paul, with 8 years old, but "identified as gifted since 6 years". His words can systematize the focus of this text. The father's testimony was supplemented with the words of an English teacher, for a program of Enrichment Activities. We discuss the concept of giftedness, the condition and influence of the family, and of the educational and socio—cultural support of Paul. We compare the criteria of giftedness and educational intervention: the diversity of information sources, the evaluation of educators, and the instruments. With more knowledge concerning the developmental area, the teachers fit the skills, the needs, the emotions, the expectations and the interaction with students. The primary objective of the present study is to understand the student, through different perspectives to improve the educational process and the well being of a gifted child, in school and family context. In the case study, descriptive and interpretive, the interview was associated with "critical incidents", the reflected circumstances, as "problematic or significant special cases" (Rosales, 1991, p. 209). We used different techniques and instruments: documentary research, and semi-structured interviews to adults Today, with his label of “giftedness”, Paul is in a situation of self-exclusion, in the classroom and school. The father also summarizes the central ideas of the study: "Society is constantly evolving as the studies that are constantly on giftedness. One day, I hope that schools will be more inclusive. The theory already exists, but we need to put theory into practice, by creating the necessary mechanisms for the full social integration of children, adolescents and adults.” |
