Crise, austeridade e ação coletiva: Experiências de aprendizagem crítica com Teatro do Oprimido

Abstract

O Teatro do Oprimido (TO) é uma metodologia de intervenção política, educativa e social, criada no início dos anos 1970, por Augusto Boal. De inspiração marxista, brechtiana e freiriana, este teatro busca investigar e desmontar as estruturas de poder que estão na base da opressão – nas suas múltiplas formas - visando a emancipação através do exercício dialético e do método dialógico. Esta tese procurou refletir sobre a pertinência do TO no quadro das mobilizações sociais contemporâneas contra a crise e austeridade em Portugal, a partir da experiência de um grupo de TO/associação Krizo, em Braga. Aliando de forma interpelante o debate teórico e a intervenção social e política, desenvolveu-se uma investigação participativa e militante, enquadrada numa “sociologia pública”. Foram utilizadas como fonte de dados: a participação e observação, diário de bordo, notas de campos, grupos focais, retratos sociológicos, entrevistas e registos audiovisuais. Na 1ª parte da tese identifica-se o objeto e ferramenta nucleares da investigação - o TO – e procede-se ao enquadramento metodológico: princípios, objetivos, questões de pesquisa. Na 2ª, apresentam-se os contextos, atores e narrativas: do ciclo de protestos globais à manifestação da “Geração à Rasca”, da descrição do grupo às suas ações, abordando-se, em particular, o tema da juventude e precariedade. Na 3ª, são aprofundadas algumas das iniciativas do grupo, utilizando teatro-imagem, teatro-fórum, teatro-jornal e outras técnicas. Na 4ª parte, analisam-se as experiências de aprendizagem do coletivo, partindo da tensão adaptação-emancipação e das suas tensões e controvérsias. Por fim, debate-se o panorama atual do TO face ao seu projeto emancipatório. A pesquisa empírica aponta revela e aponta possibilidades do TO: na desconstrução de ideologias e discursos dominantes; como exercício de descolonização dos corpos e subjetividades; como ferramenta de visibilização, conscientização e mobilização, salientando-se a necessidade da sua reinvenção permanente. A experiência de participação ativista traduz-se numa importante fonte de aprendizagem crítica, sendo que a precariedade surge como fator, simultaneamente, propulsor e condicionador da ação coletiva. Por fim, assinalam-se as fragilidades, limitações e potencialidades de uma investigação que se assume comprometida com a análise e a transformação do mundo. Desenvolvida numa perspetiva dialética, a investigação oscilou entre a análise da “sociedade de austeridade” e as suas consequências individuais; entre o momento atual e a história de um país e das suas conquistas democráticas; entre a discussão do fenómeno da precariedade e o seu reflexo em histórias de vida; entre os dados concretos da crise (estatísticas, relatórios, etc.) e a perceção física e emocional que se tem dela.

The Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) is a methodology of political, educational and social intervention, created in the early 1970s by Augusto Boal. With marxist, brechtian and freirian inspiration, this theatre seeks to investigate and dismantle the power structures that form the basis of oppression - in its many forms - aimed at emancipation through the dialectical exercise and dialogical method. This thesis sought to reflect on the relevance of the TO in the context of contemporary social mobilization against the crisis and austerity in Portugal, based on the experience of a group of TO/Krizo association in Braga. Combining the theoretical debate and social and political intervention, it was developed a participatory and militant research, framed in a "public sociology". Were used as the data source: participation and observation, logbook, field notes, focus groups, sociological portraits, interviews and audiovisual recordings. In Part 1 of the thesis it is identified the nuclear object and research tool - the TO - and proceeds the methodological framework: principles, objectives, research questions. In the 2nd, we present the contexts, actors and narratives: from the cycle of global protests to the manifestation of "Geração à Rasca", from the description of the group to their actions, focussing, in particular, the issue of youth and precariousness. In the 3rd, is detailed some of the group's initiatives using image - theatre, forum-theatre, newspaper-theatre, and other techniques. In Part 4, we analyse the collective learning experiences, based on the tension adaptation-emancipation and its controversies. Finally, it is discussed the current situation of the TO in relation to its emancipatory project. The empirical research points out and reveals the possibilities of TO: in the deconstruction of ideologies and dominant discourses; as a decolonization exercise of bodies and subjectivities; as a tool for visibilization, awareness (conscientização) and mobilization, emphasizing the need for its permanent reinvention. The experience of activist participation reflects into an important source of critical learning. The precariousness arises as a factor both propellant and conditioner of collective action. Finally, it points up the weaknesses, limitations and potential of an investigation committed to analysing and transforming the world. Developed in a dialectical perspective, the research oscillated between the analysis of "austerity society" and its individual consequences; between present time and the history of a country and its democratic achievements; between the discussion of the phenomenon of precariousness and its reflection on life stories; between the concrete data of the crisis (statistics, reports, etc.) and physical and emotional perception that we have of it.
