<Pôr-se a + infinitivo> no Português Europeu

Abstract

<Pôr-se a + infinitivo> é uma construção que focaliza o ‘começo’ da situação denotada pelo predicado cujo núcleo é a forma verbal de infinitivo. Este valor (o “incetivo” ou “fase inicial”) não lhe é, porém, exclusivo. Bem pelo contrário: é partilhado por um leque considerável de outras construções (por exemplo, e só para referir algumas, começar a, desatar a, romper a, meter-se a + infinitivo). Isto quer dizer que constitui objetivo central deste artigo/capítulo indagar as idiossincrasias da construção sob escopo. Para isso, e recorrendo quase sempre a um corpus constituído por material linguístico autêntico, recolhido na imprensa escrita e em textos literários (finais do séc. xx e inícios do séc. xxi), convoco argumentos vários, de natureza estrutural (uns) e sintático-semântica (outros).

<Pôr-se a + infinitive> is a construction that focuses on the ‘beginning’ of the situation denoted by the predicate whose core is the infinitive form of the verb. However, this value, “inceptive” or “initial phase”, is not exclusive to it. On the contrary: it is shared by a considerable range of other constructions (for example, and just to mention a few, começar a, desatar a, romper a, meter-se a + infinitive). This means that the purpose of this article/ chapter is to investigate the idiosyncrasies of the construction under scope. For this, and using almost always a corpus of authentic language material collected in the press and literary texts (end of the 20th century and early 21st century), I will put forth several arguments, both structurally and syntactic-semantic nature.
