In recent years, research has increased the themes of leisure experience and positive development of individuals, although there are shortages in the literature that relates emotional regulation strategies with leisure practice in adolescence. The objective of this study was to test a cause and effect model, the factors affecting satisfaction in leisure among adolescents, including the relationship between leisure variables, emotional self-regulation and positive working dimensions. Participants in this study were students from the 10th to the 12th grade, at a school of Braga, in a total of 654 adolescents. We measure the following results: a more positive attitude towards pleasure results in greater motivation for it, leading to an increased level of satisfaction; it increases self-esteem through cognitive reappraisal strategy; and satisfaction in leisure is a stronger predictor of psychological well-being and satisfaction with life than self-esteem. Thus, the practice of leisure influence the level of self-esteem by how the individual regulates emotions by cognitive reappraisal strategies. |
