Ensinar estruturas através de um laboratório pedagógico

Abstract

Atendendo às dificuldades sentidas pelos alunos de Engenharia Civil da Universidade do Minho relativamente à aprendizagem na área de Estruturas, foi criado no ano letivo 2012-2013 o Laboratório Pedagógico de Estruturas. Este projeto de ensino teve ótimos resultados, provando as suas capacidades e a importância da sua continuidade, tendo-se no ano letivo de 2013-2014 criado o Laboratório Pedagógico de Engenharia Civil (LabPEC), abrangendo todas as áreas disciplinares do Mestrado Integrado em Engenharia Civil. A presente dissertação é uma continuidade do projeto de ensino iniciado no ano letivo de 2012-2013. Neste trabalho foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica acerca do processo de ensino/aprendizagem e das mudanças no ensino nos últimos anos, de modo a compreender o ambiente no qual se desenvolve este projeto. Foram analisados alguns casos de sucesso de criação de laboratórios pedagógicos e outros projetos de apoio ao ensino, sendo, por último, analisado o trabalho realizado no primeiro ano do projeto. Os dados recolhidos por inquérito, acerca do ensino nas Unidades Curriculares de Estruturas, foram analisados de forma mais completa, para se averiguar eventuais relações entre vivências de estudo no Ensino Secundário, os hábitos de estudo no Ensino Superior e os resultados da aprendizagem dos alunos. Seguidamente é apresentado o material pedagógico criado, para aumento do espólio do laboratório no âmbito da presente dissertação. Foi também apresentado o desenvolvimento da identidade do Laboratório Pedagógico de Engenharia Civil, incluindo a criação do seu regulamento e desenvolvimento do seu logotipo e pagina web. Por último, foram apresentadas as atividades realizadas pelo laboratório durante o presente ano letivo.

Given the identified difficulties encountered by Civil Engineering students at the University of Minho in the context of Structural Engineering Education, the Pedagogical Structural Laboratory was created in the academic year of 2012-2013. This teaching-related project had promising results, highlighting the importance for further developments. Therefore, the Pedagogical Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LabPEC) was created in the academic year of 2013/2014, covering all subjects of the Master Degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Minho. The current dissertation is related to the efforts made during the academic year of 2013/2014 in extending the educational project of LabPEC, particularly in the scope of Structural Engineering. The dissertation starts with a literature review about the teaching/learning processes and the changes that occurred in Education in the last years, namely the Bologna Process, allowing in-depth understanding about the environment on which this project develops. This review includes successful case studies in the implementation and use of pedagogical laboratories and other educational projects, ending with the analysis of the work done in the first year of the LabPEC project. The data collected by a survey about teaching in structural engineering classes in the previous year was thoroughly re-analyzed, in order to investigate possible links between experiences in High School, study habits and students learning results. Furthermore, new teaching materials were developed (physical models and virtual tools) to increase the laboratory’s resources. A graphical identity and website for the laboratory’s dissemination were also developed, as well as a proposal for its regulation for end users. Finally, the activities carried out by the laboratory during the current academic year and the corresponding conclusions are presented.
