For the last years tourism has been playing a crucial role by including innovative and concerted strategies for development of the territory that leveraged in the promotion and consolidation of cultural and heritage values contribute to recreational and cultural enrichment and to the population’s quality of life. It is a cultural tourism which supported by endogenous resources creates a strong anchoring in local cultural dynamics and generates a new model of economic, social and territorial development. This kind of cultural tourism relies in specific solutions that distinguish the region and increase their competitive capital through distinctive and complementary offers, by putting in motion initiatives of optimization and revitalization of its heritage for tourist purposes. In this study the initiatives of tourist are simultaneously connected to mining and industrial heritage, representing an essential part of the history, the cultural heritage and the identity of a village such as Ponte de Lima, which has a rich and diverse mining and industrial heritage. This heritage joins the mines of Serra d’Arga which are a considerable mining territory dedicated to mining, especially of wolfram and tin, and that were aggregated to the ‘Separadora’ of Ponte de Lima. Thereby, the purpose is to share and value the industrial and mining heritage of Serra d’Arga which offers a great tourist potential that together with a proposal of the rehabilitation of an industrial structure, might be transformed in a future “Centro de Informação do Minério”. This space will lead to the implementation of cultural and tourist routes to the mines which will be an instrument to enhance cultural and heritage values and will embrace the relationships with the surroundings, the planning and land regeneration. This is a project of cultural cooperation with the purpose of promoting the qualifications of the region, valuing the central role of tourism as a driving force for the development of the territory.
