Simulação e ofensiva : movimentações católicas e reivindicação do ensino da religião no curso liceal (Portugal, década de 1890)

Abstract

Nos anos finais de 1890, e tendo como detonador a Reforma do Ensino Secundário, estimulada por Jaime Moniz, em 1895, geraram-se múltiplas reações. Umas foram protagonizadas pelos diferentes setores liberais, e outras dinamizadas pelos movimentos neocatólicos, ambas, no essencial, visaram contestar diversos aspetos da Reforma. Interessa-nos dissecar os argumentos dos católicos, particularmente, por um inesperado objetivo: a urgente necessidade de instituir a disciplina de Ensino Católico. O cerne do debate residiu precisamente na retórica utilizada para legitimar essa reivindicação, que ultrapassando o mero registo de uma putativa disciplinar curricular, se embebe no âmago da intrínseca natureza da dinâmica de modernização da sociedade portuguesa.

In the final years of 1890 and with the detonator Reform of Secondary Education, stimulated by Jaime Moniz in 1895, were generated multiple reactions. Some were enthralled by the different sectors liberals, and other streamlined by new catholics movements, both in essence aimed to challenge various aspects of the Reformation. We are interested in dissecting the arguments of Catholics, particularly, by an unexpected goal: the urgent need to establish the discipline of Catholic Education. The crux of the debate resided precisely in the rhetoric used to justify this claim, that surpassing the mere registration of a putative disciplinary curriculum, soak up the core of the intrinsic nature of dynamic modernization of Portuguese society.
