As metamorfoses do corpo na obra de José de Guimarães : contributos para uma filosofia do imaginário educacional

Abstract

José Maria Fernandes Marques é o verdadeiro nome do artista português, José de Guimarães, o qual adopta o apelido da sua cidade natal, Guimarães, em 1961. Nasceu em 1939 na região do Minho, norte de Portugal, e desde a sua juventude dá início a uma exploração do mundo, com um olhar focalizado em raízes arqueológicas, históricas, culturais e mítico- simbólicas. Ao longo do seu percurso artístico torna-se num artista nómada, contactando com os continentes africano, americano, asiático e, o seu, europeu. De todos eles procura entender os seus símbolos e mitos mais emblemáticos para o verdadeiro conhecimento das suas raízes antropológicas e culturais. Estes elementos tornam-se os seus objectos de trabalho para criar uma obra em torno da pessoa humana e dos diversos imaginários veiculados pelas suas variadas acepções: sócio-cultural, arquetípica e mítico-simbólica. Cria, neste sentido, uma verdadeira osmose cultural, onde o corpo e a pessoa humana se encaram como elementos universais. A sua obra caracteriza-se por uma transculturalidade e uma intemporalidade ímpar, facto que coloca este artista numa contemporaneidade ilimitada e criador de uma obra incomparável. O seu instinto marginal, manifestante contra os sistemas culturais nacionais, transforma-o num artista conceituado e com reconhecimento mais rápido no estrangeiro, do que no próprio país. Elege o corpo humano como veículo para uma miscigenação cultural. A suas obras são lugares onde se relacionam corpos metamorfoseados e símbolos originários de diferentes mundos culturais. Cria, assim, o primeiro alfabeto iconográfico, nos anos setenta, contactando com Angola, o qual o acompanhará nas inúmeras ligações com outras civilizações, mantendo-o e reciclando-o constantemente com novos símbolos. Com esta sucessiva metamorfose de alfabetos, oferece à pessoa humana uma imagem universal. José de Guimarães engloba no seu projecto artístico, elementos mítico-simbólicos do corpo humano, susceptíveis para uma investigação na área da Filosofia do Imaginário Educacional, bem como nas áreas da Estética Educacional e da Filosofia e Estética Antropológica.

He was born in 1939 in Minho, a region in the North of Portugal and since his youth began an exploration of the world, focusing on the historical, cultural, archaeological and mythical-symbolic roots. Throughout his artistic path, he becomes an artistic wanderer by getting in touch with the America, Africa, Asia, and his own European continent. From all these, he tries to understand most emblematic myths and symbols that might lead him to a true knowledge of his anthropological and cultural roots. These elements become his working objects, which allow him to create a work around the person and the various imaginaries seen in their several meanings: social, cultural, archetypical and mythical-symbolic. This way he creates a true cultural osmosis, where the body and the human being are considered universal elements. His work is characterized by a unique timelessness and multiculturality, which places this artist in an unlimited contemporaneity and sets him as the creator of an unmeasurable work. His revolutionary instincts against national cultural systems transforms him into an acknowledge artist mostly abroad. He chooses the human body as the vehicle to a cultural miscegenation. His works are places, where metamorphosed bodies and symbols from different cultural works connect. Consequently, he creates in the 19705 after being in contact with Angola the first ichnographical alphabet, which he will use when in contact with other civilizations and constantly recycle with new symbols. He can embody the human being in a cultural osmosis through these metamorphoses of alphabets, presenting the human being as an universal image. In his artistic path, José de Guimarães embraces mythical-symbolic elements of the human body that were the object of this research in the area of the Educational Imaginary Philosophy as well as the Educational Aesthetics and the Anthropological Aesthetics and Philosophy.
