redes sociais têm vindo a crescer e a conquistar popularidade, nomeadamente
From the twentieth to the twenty-first century it was possible to see a significant media evolution and growth. The different media currently exert a remarkable impact on society and have become an integral part of citizens’ daily routines, revealing influence in their lives. The social networking sites have been growing and gaining popularity, especially among young people, revolutionizing the way they communicate and interact. It is in this context that Media Education plays a crucial role, as being inevitable to have contact with the media, it is essential to develop critical capabilities for media consumption. Only through education will be possible to promote good practices in the use of media, and equip citizens with tools to decode the various media messages. This study sought to relate classical media and new media, through the analysis of two Portuguese daily newspapers: Jornal de Notícias and Público. As a starting point two questions were asked: on one hand it is intended to investigate how social networks are portrayed, which is the image that is being created by the press, which representation is reflected in the news coverage; on the other hand, it is asked if at some point in media coverage there is reference to Media Education, if there is a contribution of the press to enlighten and educate towards the opportunities that social networks can provide and how to avoid harmful situations. |
