A criança, a literatura, o livro e três escritoras-mediadoras durante o Estado Novo em Portugal

Abstract

Partindo do pressuposto da imbricação do campo literário – em particular, da literatura que possui na criança o seu potencial destinatário extratextual – e da realidade social e centrando a atenção no período do Estado Novo ou da ditadura em Portugal (1926-1974), revisita-se o percurso biobibliográfico multifacetado de três reconhecidas escritoras-mediadoras do universo literário e cultural português, a saber: Alice Gomes (1910-1983), Ilse Losa (1913-2006) e Matilde Rosa Araújo (1921-2010). Acentua-se a sua acção cívica e sempre em prol da criança, dos seus direitos, da literatura, do livro e, também, da arte em geral, sugerindo, portanto, a relevância dos autores de literatura para a infância para a tão desejada mudança política antes da Revolução de Abril e, muito especialmente, para a urgência da legitimação da educação literária e/ou para uma sensibilização da criança para arte.

Based on the assumption of the imbrication of the literary field – in particular, literature that has in children its potential extratextual recipient – and social reality and focusing attention on the period of the Estado Novo or the dictatorship in Portugal (1926-1974), we revisit the multifaceted biobibliographic journey of three recognized writers mediators of the Portuguese literary and cultural universe, namely: Alice Gomes (1910-1983), Ilse Losa (1913-2006) and Matilde Rosa Araújo (1921-2010). Their civic action is emphasized and always in favour of children, their rights, literature, books and also art in general, suggesting, therefore, the relevance of children’s literature authors for the much-desired change politics before the April Revolution, and, very especially, to the urgent need to legitimize literary education and/or to raise children’s awareness of art
