A Flexibilidade: uma questão interpretativa da domesticidade na atualidade

Abstract

A flexibilidade não é um conceito novo, mas é um tema que tem vindo a ser cada vez mais explorado e debatido no âmbito da arquitetura, essencialmente, pela necessidade de atender a mudanças no modo de vida plural do sujeito contemporâneo. Assim sendo, o trabalho de investigação aqui proposto trata de registrar ideias e pensamentos que rejeitam a comodidade dos estereótipos – que homogeneízam os comportamentos – e preferem o domínio da Diversidade – que não ignora as dinâmicas sociais, tecnológicas e culturais do mundo e prefere o uso diversificado, natural e imprevisível do espaço habitacional. Na primeira parte desta dissertação desenvolveremos uma base teórica, onde pretendemos dissecar o conceito, identificar teorias, arquitetos e obras que foram fundamentais para a solidificação do tema e por sua vez cruciais para as interpretações e ilações da presente investigação. Sabe-se que a flexibilidade se pode manifestar de várias formas, possibilitando diferentes apropriações do espaço, e no âmbito da domesticidade o trabalho procura identificar elementos que facilitam a flexibilidade e apresentar diferentes tipos de flexibilidade. Compreendendo uma abordagem entre espaços distintos, nas suas diferentes escalas e sensibilidades. Enunciando e explorando a problemática pensando para além do desenho arquitetónico, procurando refletir sobre o modo de cada indivíduo compreender e experienciar o espaço, porque nenhuma interpretação é igual entre duas pessoas e cada vivência é única. Na segunda e última parte procuramos refletir sobre a flexibilidade na arquitetura num contexto de relações físicas e metafísicas, propondo um entendimento que não seja limitado apenas às propriedades do objeto arquitetónico, mas que envolva a vivência, os sentidos, as pessoas. Para tal utilizaremos três parâmetros (que se apresentam sob a forma de binómios, e que apesar de distintos não são excludentes, mas sim, complementares) perante duas leituras distintas – a interpretativa e a propositiva - que nos remeterão para seis casos exemplares, que por sua vez nos revelam abordagens de projeto distintas que nos conduzem a soluções de arquitetura mais ou menos flexíveis.

Flexibility is not a new concept, but it is a theme that has been increasingly explored and debated in the field of architecture, essentially because of the need to meet the changes in the plural way of life of the contemporary subject. Thus, the research work proposed here is about registering ideas and thoughts that reject the commodity of stereotypes - which homogenize behaviors - and prefer the domain of Diversity - which does not ignore the social, technological, and cultural dynamics of the world and prefers the diverse, natural, and unpredictable use of living space. In the first part of this dissertation we will develop a theoretical basis, where we intend to dissect the concept, identify theories, architects and works that were fundamental to the solidification of the theme and in turn crucial to the interpretations and conclusions of this research. It is known that flexibility can manifest itself in various ways, enabling different appropriations of space, and in the context of domesticity the work seeks to identify elements that facilitate flexibility and present different types of flexibility. Understanding an approach between distinct spaces, in their different scales and sensibilities. Enunciating and exploring the problematic thinking beyond the architectural design, trying to reflect on the way each individual understands and experiences the space, because no interpretation is the same between two people and each experience is unique. In the second and last part we seek to reflect on flexibility in architecture in a context of physical and metaphysical relations, proposing an understanding that is not limited only to the properties of the architectural object, but that involves the experience, the senses, the people. To this end, we will use three parameters (which are presented in the form of binomials, and that although distinct are not exclusive, they are complementary) in the face of two distinct readings - interpretative and propositional - that will refer us to six exemplary cases, which in turn reveal to us distinct design approaches that lead us to more or less flexible architectural solutions.
