documental.
The present study was aimed to understand what is the contribution of exploratory education in the learning of topics of Geometry with students from the 1st and 2nd cycle. To answer this need, the following research questions were posed: What type of activities do students complete when learning topics of Geometry through exploratory education? What difficulties do students present in the activities they complete during the exploratory education? What perceptions do students have on the exploratory education in the learning of geometry contents? To answer these questions, it was carried out the collection of information through the following methods of data collection: video and audio recording of classes, questionnaires, interviews, observation grids and documentary analysis. The data analysis helped reach various conclusions. In relation to the introductory phase, it can be concluded that students focus on the reading, interpretation and formulation of questions on the aspects of the problem. In the execution stage of the task, it was identified different strategies used by the students: trial and error, counting and formulation of conjectures. The students had the opportunity to use different teaching resources and to work in pairs and in different groups. While in the discussion phase, the students shared results, justified their thinking and analyzed their colleagues’. During the phase of systemization of the knowledge resulting from the completion of the tasks, the students, in a large group, acknowledged the importance of the conjectures found in the definition of concepts and properties. Throughout this study, the students presented difficulties, such as the interpretation of problems, the argumentation of results and processes, and the comprehension of specific concepts. Concerning the phases of exploratory education, the students gave special relevance to the introductory phase of the task, considering the interpretation of the problems as fundamental to the execution of the other phases. They highlighted as well, the importance of using other materials, the exploring in pairs or small groups of the proposed tasks, the sharing of ideas, the clarification of doubts and the sharing of methods for the resolution of the tasks. |
