Currently there are various irrigation systems used in agriculture which are completely or partially controlled by people. These systems are manually or mechanically controlled in such a way that assessing how well the valves work efficiently in these systems is difficult. Anomalies could occur which, in turn, might cause high hydraulic pressure in the irrigation installations leading to a partial destruction of the piping and, thus, to the loss of a resource. Some types of electric valves are directly dependent on the electric energy grid. This type of situation has its inconvenience due to the need of laying down electric cables at various points in the cultivated area. The objective here is to develop a valve and a controller which are not energetically dependent on the electric grid, and a SCADA system. The valve and the controller need to be fed by one of two energy storage elements: a battery or an ultracapacitor module. A photovoltaic panel converts solar radiation into electric energy so that it can become the energy source for the controller and also it can charge the energy storage elements. The SCADA system aims to help an operator monitor and remotely control all of the irrigation installation process. The developed controller has demonstrated its capability to control the valve and the flow of energy from the photovoltaic panel allowing the charge of the energy storage elements. The valve developed has also demonstrated being capable of responding to all of the different inherent requisites of a valve. The SCADA system allowed the creation of an intuitive control interface in which an operator could create a representative framework of the physical irrigation installation. Through the developed system, an operator can control and monitor an irrigation installation. |
