Dinâmica demográfica no Ave: um estudo prospectivo

Abstract

O estudo das projecções demográficas tem, desde há várias décadas, suscitado acrescido interesse entre os demógrafos e a sociedade em geral, com o intuito de compreender a dinâmica demográfica, particularmente nos seus fenómenos estritos: a fecundidade, o movimento migratório e a mortalidade. O interesse manifestado em conhecer quantos seremos e como estaremos distribuídos no que concerne ao género, à idade ou a outras características demográficas, tem implicado o desenvolvimento de métodos de projecção crescentemente mais precisos e passíveis de ser matematicamente expressos. A inconstância desta dinâmica populacional, materializada nas bem conhecidas fases da transição demográfica, assim como a diversidade desta mesma dinâmica, em áreas geograficamente muito próximas, tem obrigado a uma atenção redobrada no que concerne às variações populacionais e aos fenómenos demográficos. O estudo que desenvolvemos, aplicado a uma área geográfica de Portugal Continental, especificamente uma parte da região Norte, estatisticamente designada por sub-região Ave, analisa, num primeiro momento, os concelhos que a constituem e, num segundo momento, as respectivas freguesias. A heterogeneidade demográfica em diferentes sub-áreas dos concelhos está na origem do estudo fragmentado destes através do estudo individualizado das respectivas freguesias. Assim, o nosso estudo empírico pode ser dissociado, primordialmente, em três grandes fases. Numa primeira fase, procuramos conhecer as variações populacionais, nas suas variadas vertentes, que ocorreram nos concelhos do Ave durante as últimas décadas, especificamente entre 1900 e 2001. Posteriormente, no seguimento das principais conclusões recolhidas, a nossa atenção passa a recair no estudo anual das freguesias entre os dois mais recentes momentos censitários, isto é, entre 1991 e 2001. A segunda fase do nosso estudo pretende aferir quais as freguesias que, durante o período em causa, demonstraram ter comportamentos demográficos mais homogéneos, por um lado, e, por outro, tipificar as heterogeneidades entre os diferentes grupos de freguesias, independentemente da freguesia de pertença. O recurso a métodos estatísticos multivariados está na origem da construção destes grupos. Finalmente, utiliza-se o método de projecção adoptado, baseado na utilização simultânea do método das componentes por coortes e no método rácio, para perspectivar as populações futuras, no próximo quarto de século, quer para as freguesias, quer para os concelhos. Este estudo pretendeu, acima de tudo, propor uma solução para o desenvolvimento de projecções demográficas em situações em que grandes áreas são separadas em áreas mais pequenas, as quais são agregadas, tendo em conta a sua homogeneidade demográfica, e diferenciadas, considerando as respectivas heterogeneidades demográficas.

The study of the demographic projections it has, since has some decades, received increased interest between the demographers and the society in general, with intention to understand the demographic dynamics, particularly in its strict phenomena: fertility, migration and mortality. The interest revealed in knowing how many we will be and as we will be distributed with respect to sex, age or other demographic characteristics, has implied the development of methods of projection, increasingly accurate and reliable. The variation of this population dynamics, materialized in known phases of the demographic transition well, as well as the diversity of this same dynamics, in geographically very next areas, has debtor to an attention redoubled with respect to the population variations and to the demographic phenomena. Our study, applied to a geographic area of Portugal Continental, specifically a part of the region North, statistical assigned for sub-region Ave, analyzes, at a first moment, the “concelhos” that constitute it and, at a second moment, the respective “freguesias”. The demographic heterogeneity in different sub-areas of the “concelhos” is in the origin of the separately study of these through the individualized study of the respective “freguesias”. Thus, our empirical study it can be dissociated, primordially, in three great phases. In a first phase, we look for to know the variations population, in its varied source, that had occurred in the “concelhos” of the Ave during the last decades, specifically between 1900 and 2001. Later, in the pursuing of the main collected conclusions, our attention starts to fall again into the annual study of the “freguesias” between 1991 and 2001. The second phase of our study intends to survey which the “freguesias” who, during the period in cause, had demonstrated to have homogenate demographic behaviors and, on the other hand, to typified the heterogeneity between the different groups of “freguesias”, independently of the “freguesias” of belongs. We use multivariate statistical methods to construct these groups. Finally, we used a projection method, based on the simultaneous use of the cohortcomponent method and the ratio method, to project the future populations, in the next twenty five years, for the “freguesias” and for the “concelhos”. This study it intended, above all, to consider a solution for the development of demographic projections in situations where great areas are separate in smaller areas, which is aggregates, having in account its demographic homogeneity, and differentiated, considering the respective demographic heterogeneity.
