O Monte da Franqueira (Barcelos): o passado de um lugar em celebração ao património cultural

Abstract

A presente dissertação, realizada no âmbito do mestrado em Património Cultural da Universidade do Minho, pretende constituir um contributo para a valorização do património cultural do Monte da Franqueira, localizado no concelho de Barcelos. Composto por um Monumento de Interesse Público, Monumento Nacional, Imóvel de Interesse Público, este complexo habitado desde o Calcolítico até à Idade Média, constitui um documento singular que encerra uma história milenar. Simultaneamente, procura-se, igualmente, promover o património cultural e arqueológico do município de Barcelos, em especial, através do estudo do património cultural do Monte da Franqueira. Na realidade, as várias potencialidades do Monte da Franqueira para a prática de turismo cultural no concelho de Barcelos, incluindo o segmento do turismo arqueológico, requerem um maior investimento que necessariamente se deve sustentar, desde logo, devem ser valorizadas. Deve ser trabalhado por intermédio de um conhecimento histórico sistematizado sobre a ocupação humana no Monte da Franqueira desde o Calcolítico até à Idade Média, mas também num discurso apoiado na importância e uso ganho ao longo do tempo pelo Monte da Franqueira, incluindo os seus vestígios arqueológicos. Importa igualmente refletir sobre a relação entre o Monte da Franqueira e a memória coletiva local a partir de uma visão holística inerente ao próprio processo de patrimonialização que conheceu nas últimas décadas. Neste sentido, este trabalho consiste numa análise aos diferentes tipos de património cultural que integram este Monte, realizada com base numa pesquisa histórico-documental, mas também numa avaliação do seu potencial turístico, que incluiu uma análise SWOT e a aplicação de questionários, de modo a aferir os recursos que devem ser valorizados e salvaguardados por parte da população residente e das autoridades políticas locais e regionais. Procurámos, deste modo, sistematizar o conhecimento acerca do passado e da memória das comunidades que habitaram e espoliaram do Monte da Franqueira, mas também contribuir para um futuro melhor a dar a este complexo. Assim este trabalho pode ser visto metaforicamente como uma ponte entre um passado estático e um futuro dinâmico, através, nomeadamente, da valorização do seu diversificado património cultural.

The present dissertation, carried out within the scope of the Master's Degree in Cultural Heritage of the University of Minho, intends to constitute a contribution to the enhancement of the cultural heritage of Monte da Franqueira, located in the municipality of Barcelos. Consisting of a Monument of Public Interest, a National Monument and a Property of Public Interest, this complex, inhabited from the Chalcolithic to the Middle Ages, constitutes a singular document that encloses a millenary history. At the same time, the aim is also to promote the cultural and archaeological heritage of Barcelos municipality, especially through the study of the cultural heritage of the Monte da Franqueira. In reality, the various potentialities of the Monte da Franqueira for the practice of cultural tourism in the municipality of Barcelos, including the archaeological tourism segment, require greater investment that must necessarily be sustained. It must be worked through a systematized historical knowledge about the human occupation of the Monte da Franqueira from the Chalcolithic to the Middle Ages, but also in a discourse supported by the importance and use gained over time by the Monte da Franqueira, including its archaeological remains. It is also important to reflect on the relationship between the Monte da Franqueira and the local collective memory from a holistic view inherent in the very process of patrimonialization that has known in recent decades. In this sense, this work consists of an analysis of the different types of cultural heritage that make up this hill, based on historical and documentary research, but also an assessment of its tourist potential, which included a SWOT analysis and the application of questionnaires, in order to assess the resources that should be valued and safeguarded by the resident population and local and regional political authorities. We sought, in this way, to systematise the knowledge about the past and the memory of the communities that lived and plundered in Monte da Franqueira, but also to contribute to a better future to be given to this complex. So this work can be seen metaphorically as a bridge between a static past and a dynamic future, namely through the valorisation of its diverse cultural heritage.
