Assistência pessoal e seus impactos na qualidade de vida nas representações sociais. O caso das pessoas com deficiência visual (cegas)

Abstract

Esta investigação científica tem como objetivo estudar o impacto da assistência pessoal na qualidade de vida das pessoas com deficiência visual (cegas) apoiadas e no combate às representações sociais negativas a seu respeito. Assim, perante o objetivo da dissertação recorreu-se à teoria das representações sociais, às representações sociais da Cegueira e ao modelo de qualidade de vida, método World Health Organization Quality Of Life (WHOQOL). Posteriormente, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas aos destinatários cegos, assistentes pessoais e familiares. Foi realizada a análise de conteúdo das mesmas, os resultados foram confrontados com as dimensões da qualidade de vida abordadas pelo método selecionado para a investigação (WHOQOL) e com as respetivas funções dos AP (Assistente pessoal). Conseguindo assim concluir que o trabalho desenvolvido pelos CAVI tem um impacto forte e positivo na qualidade de vida das pessoas apoiadas e começa a desconstruir e desmistificar as representações sociais da deficiência visual (cegueira).

This scientific research aims to study the impact of personal assistance on the quality of life of supported visually impaired (blind) individuals and to counter the negative social representations about them. Thus, aligned with the purpose of this dissertation we enlisted the theory of social representations, social representation of Blindness and the framework of quality of life, the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) method. Furthermore, semi-structured interviews were conducted on blind beneficiaries, personal assistants, and family members. Their content was analyzed, and the results were compared with the dimensions of quality of life addressed by the method selected for the research (WHOQOL) and with the respective roles of the PA (Personal Assistant). We can therefore conclude that the work carried out by CAVI has a strong and positive impact on the quality of life of the people it supports and is beginning to deconstruct and demystify the social representations of visual impairment (blindness).
