Tradução especializada no Museu de Arqueologia D. Diogo de Sousa

Abstract

O presente relatório de estágio desenvolvido no âmbito do Mestrado de Tradução e Comunicação Multilingue descreve o estágio curricular realizado ao longo de três meses no Museu de Arqueologia D. Diogo de Sousa. O principal objetivo deste estágio foi a tradução e revisão de dois grandes projetos, tendo o primeiro sido o Catálogo Arqueológico Greco-Roman World. Ancient Mediterranean Art, traduzido de inglês para português e o segundo, o website do Museu D. Diogo de Sousa, traduzido de português para inglês. Numa primeira fase deste relatório é abordado o enquadramento teórico. Neste é definido o conceito de Turismo Cultural, sendo apresentada uma descrição do desenvolvimento deste tipo de turismo em Portugal, ao longo das últimas décadas. Para além disso, o património arqueológico em Portugal e a forma como o Estado protege o seu património são apresentados, com enfoque no património arqueológico romano de Braga, onde é possível encontrar diversos monumentos e locais de grande valor cultural, sendo ainda explorado o modo como o Museu D. Diogo de Sousa protege e perpetua este património para as gerações vindouras. O conceito de tradução e de tradução especializada são ainda clarificados, e o modo como a tradução tem o poder de impactar o turismo cultural é analisado. Numa segunda fase é realizada uma apresentação do estágio curricular, onde é possível conhecer o processo de seleção, os objetivos e a entidade acolhedora do estágio, bem como as tarefas realizadas ao longo do mesmo. Numa terceira fase descrevemos o trabalho desenvolvido no âmbito do estágio, no qual são dados mais detalhes relativos às informações traduzidas no catálogo arqueológico e no website do Museu. Para além disso, surgem dadossobre a criação de dois glossários bilingues, que prestaram apoio às traduções, e são mencionadas as ferramentas e recursos utilizados ao longo deste trabalho. Por fim, propomos uma análise a todo trabalho desenvolvido, desde dados que quantificam o volume de trabalho realizado, a exemplos das estratégias de tradução mais utilizadas, assim como uma descrição dos principais desafios e soluções encontrados em cada tradução.

The present report, developed within the scope of the Translation and Multilingual Communication Master's Degree, describes the curricular internship carried out during three months at the D. Diogo Sousa Museum of Archaeology. The main focus of this internship was the translation and revision of two major projects, the first of which was the Archaeological Catalogue “Greco-Roman World. Ancient Mediterranean Art”, translated from English into Portuguese and the second, the website of D. Diogo de Sousa Museum, translated from Portuguese into English. During the first phase of this report, the theoretical framework is addressed. In this the concept of Cultural Tourism is defined, and the development of this type of tourism, in Portugal, is described along the last decades. Furthermore, the archaeological heritage in Portugal and the way the State protects its heritage are introduced, with a focus on the Roman archaeological heritage of Braga, where several monuments and sites of great cultural value can be found. Moreover, the way that the D. Diogo de Sousa Museum protects and perpetuates this heritage for future generations it is also explored. The concept of translation and specialised translation are also clarified, and the impact translation has on cultural tourism is analysed. In a second phase, there is a presentation of the curricular internship, where it is possible to know the selection process, the goals and the entity hosting the internship, as well as the tasks performed during the same period. In the third phase, the work carried out within the scope of the internship is described, in which more details are given regarding the information translated into the archaeological catalogue and the Museum's website. There is also information concerning the creation of two bilingual glossaries, which provided support for the translations, and information about the tools and resources used throughout this work. Finally, an analysis of all the work carried out is proposed, ranging from data quantifying the volume of work undertaken, to examples of the most common translation strategies used, as well as a description of the main challenges and solutions encountered in each translation.
