Entrepreneurship is a central element in job creation and economic growth. To this end, the entrepreneur must know, in addition to creating his own business, to maintain it and obtain positive returns on his investments. An individual with a higher level of financial literacy is more likely to create and succeed in a new business. However, most entrepreneurs do not have adequate financial knowledge so that the business can easily face financial difficulties. Although Engineering students at the University of Minho reveal a positive entrepreneurial intention, students from courses with greater financial knowledge, such as Economics, have a greater entrepreneurial intention, since in terms of technical knowledge, Economics students are more familiar with financial content. and of a strategic business nature. As financial literacy is an important element in success, there is a lack of studies that link the two subjects. In this sense, this dissertation intends to contribute to the discussion of the relevance of financial literacy in the entrepreneurial intention of engineering students. The aim is to investigate the link between entrepreneurial intention and the level of financial knowledge of engineering students at the University of Minho. The implementation of the questionnaire, called Entrepreneurial Intention & Financial Literacy 2022, with students from the School of Engineering of the University of Minho resulted in a final sample of 71 valid responses. Regarding the preliminary results obtained, the entrepreneurial intention may depend on the predisposition and entrepreneurial attitude of the students. Dependency relationships between entrepreneurial intention and entrepreneurial family or the gender of students were not identified. For financial literacy, dependency relationships were identified with entrepreneurial predisposition, family influence, entrepreneurial attitude, and the use of Cards as a financial product. Finally, dependency relationships between entrepreneurial intention and financial literacy level were not detected. |
