O novo papel do CIO na era da Transformação Digital

Abstract

Nos últimos sensivelmente dez anos, o conceito TD (Transformação Digital), tem vindo a crescer e a ganhar corpo, inevitavelmente por causa das tecnologias disruptivas que a quarta revolução industrial “disponibilizou”, a título de exemplo, a cloud, a IoT, o Big Data e o Blockchain. Face a esta “revolução”, é expectável que haja alterações nas organizações quer ao nível dos processos de negócio, quer ao nível das funções desempenhadas pelos profissionais, nomeadamente as do CIO. Desta forma, o trabalho desenvolvido visa, procurar um entendimento sobre o novo papel do CIO na era da Transformação Digital. Para tal, foram explanados os tópicos da Reengenharia dos Processos de Negócio, da Transformação Digital, evolução do papel do CIO nos últimos anos e por fim, foi ainda definido o papel do CIO no contexto da Transformação Digital. O método de investigação utilizado na presente dissertação foi a revisão de literatura, sendo que a revisão foi subdivida em dois grandes momentos. O primeiro momento foi dedicado aos conceitos fundamentais, utilizando uma estratégia mais livre procurando autores de referência, já o segundo momento para a identificação dos impactes da Transformação Digital no papel do CIO, foi utilizada uma revisão mais sistemática no qual permitiu uma revisão e arrumação de conceitos, divisão e respetivas conclusões. Em jeito de conclusão, o papel do CIO irá com toda a certeza alterar-se. As duas palavras de ordem do momento são, a mudança e a inovação, despoletadas pelo fenómeno da TD, o CIO terá de acompanhar e adaptar-se aos novos tempos, tornando-se um ativador e um Agente de Mudança, Estratega de Negócios, Estratega de Tecnologias entre outras funções. Contudo, não há um roteiro para a implementação da TD, logo cada empresa implementa a sua estratégia e por consequência, cada CIO terá de arranjar estratégias face a essas implementações, não é um caminho fácil, o papel do CIO não é estanque e, portanto, sofrerá com toda a certeza alterações ao longo dos anos.

In the last ten years the term DT (Digital Transformation) has been growing and gaining strength, that has inevitably because of the disruptive technologies industrial revolution “made available”, for example, the cloud, the IoT, Big Data and the Blockchain. In view of these “revolutions”, it is expected that there will be changes in organizations both in terms of business processes and in terms of the functions performed by professionals, namely those of the CIO. In this way, the work developed aims to seek an understanding of the new role of the CIO in the era of Digital Transformation. To this end, the topics of Business Process Reengineering, Digital Transformation, evolution of the CIO's role in recent years were explained and finally, the CIO's role in the context of Digital Transformation was defined. The research method used in this dissertation was a literature review, and the review was divided into two major moments. The first moment was dedicated to fundamental concepts, using a freer strategy looking for reference authors, the second moment to identify the impacts of Digital Transformation on the CIO's role, a more systematic review was used in which it allowed a review and arrangement of concepts, division and respective conclusions. By way of conclusion, the CIO's role is certain to change. The two watchwords of the moment are, change and innovation, triggered by the phenomenon of DT, the CIO will have to follow and adapt to new times, becoming an activator and an agent of change, business leader, strategist technologies, among other functions. However, there is no roadmap for the implementation of DT, so each company implements its strategy and, consequently, each CIO will have to find strategies in the face of these implementations, it is not an easy path, the CIO's role is not watertight and, therefore, will certainly change over the years.
