Multicultural picturebooks na promoção de uma consciência intercultural e na aprendizagem do Inglês no 1.º CEB

Abstract

O presente relatório de estágio surge no âmbito do Mestrado em Ensino do Inglês no 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico da Universidade do Minho, e tem como propósito descrever e avaliar a implementação do projeto de investigação-ação intitulado Multicultural picturebooks na promoção de uma consciência intercultural e na aprendizagem do Inglês no 1.º CEB. Efetivamente, o seu objeto de estudo é a utilização da metodologia storytelling enquanto ferramenta de aprendizagem da Língua Inglesa e de abordagem ao conceito de educação intercultural. Neste contexto, tinha como principais objetivos perceber as perceções das crianças relativamente à aprendizagem da Língua Inglesa e à audição e leitura de histórias em Inglês; avaliar o uso de histórias como estratégia de envolvimento na aprendizagem da Língua Inglesa e no desenvolvimento de capacidades de interpretação do mundo e de relacionamento com o Outro; desenvolver competências de autorregulação da aprendizagem; avaliar o impacto da intervenção pedagógica na promoção de uma consciência intercultural. O projeto dividiu-se em três fases: na primeira, procedi à recolha de informação para um melhor conhecimento do contexto de intervenção e, posteriormente, para desenhar o projeto; na segunda fase implementei três sequências didáticas, com base na exploração de três histórias; e, numa última fase, fiz uma avaliação geral do projeto com base nos dados recolhidos na atividade final The letter. Com base na informação recolhida, concluo que esta é uma estratégia que motiva a aprendizagem do Inglês.

This teaching training report was written within the Master in Teaching English for Primary School at the University of Minho and aims to describe and evaluate the action research project entitled Multicultural picturebooks in the promotion of intercultural awareness and in the learning of English in the primary education. In fact, it aims to evaluate the use of the storytelling methodology as a tool for English Language learning and as an approach to the concept of intercultural education. In this context, its objectives were identify children’s perceptions towards English language learning and the use of stories; assess the potential of storytelling in the involvement in the learning of the English language and in developing the ability to "read the world"; promote the competence “learning to learn” with a focus on self-regulation; assess the impact of pedagogical intervention in promoting intercultural awareness. The project was divided into three phases. In the first phase, I collected information for a better understanding of the intervention context and, later, the project design. In the second phase, I implemented three didactic sequences, based on the exploration of three stories. Lastly, in the third phase, I evaluated the project based on information collected from the activity The letter. Based on the information gathered, I conclude that this is a strategy that motivates the learning of English.
