A família, a memória e os afetos: os Alves de Requião (séculos XVII-XX)

Abstract

Todos temos um passado, uma história, uma família na qual nascemos e fomos acolhidos pelo destino. É nessa família, com todas as suas vicissitudes, fraquezas, grandezas e todos os seus bens, materiais e humanos, que nos situamos, pois a nossa história familiar não começa apenas no dia em que nascemos. Se tivermos apenas isso em atenção, o nosso nascimento, seremos desenraizados, de pessoas e lugares, sem a sensação de pertença a um lugar, a uma família. É bom saber que somos o resultado de tantas histórias, de amor, de desamor, de vidas, mais ou menos preenchidas que atravessaram séculos e gerações até chegarem a nós. Todas essas gerações, esses homens e mulheres, fruto de um tempo, de uma conjuntura, de uma circunstância como tão bem definiu Ortega y Gasset, tiveram vidas que os registos escritos, sempre os registos, foram testemunhando e permitindo às gerações seguintes conhecê-los, e quiçá, estes se forem pessoas de afetos, os encararem como um património, que é também genético, seu. Foi neste sentido, e com base nos registos escritos que chegaram até aos nossos dias que nos propusemos conhecer a família Alves, que é a nossa família paterna. Seguindo sempre o lado varonil, que está na nossa ascendência direta, procurámos dar vida a estes homens, e também mulheres, alguns dos quais já bem distantes no tempo, conhecê-los melhor e á época em que viveram. Uma época que abarca quatro séculos distintos, e por isso mesmo tempos diferentes, embora o local seja sempre o mesmo, Requião. Como foram sempre os registos escritos que deram o mote à investigação e a direcionaram para as opções tomadas, este trabalho centrou-se na elaboração de uma história de vida de uma família, com os seus indivíduos, alguns dos quais com vida pública e por isso mesmo com muito maior quantidade de informação fruto de um maior número de fontes onde ficou registada a sua atividade. Conscientes de que existem outros tantos arquivos como este, de gente comum, como é o caso da família em questão, sem a ascendência aristocrática de grandes casas nobiliárquicas, que por si só são sinónimo de grandes e ricos arquivos familiares, e que é nas pequenas/grandes informações do quotidiano individual e familiar que está a história de um povo aventuramo-nos não apenas a um elencar de nomes que prefigurassem uma árvore genealógica mas de ir mais além, trazendo á luz do dia indivíduos que de uma forma ou de outra marcaram a sua presença no tempo e no espaço, e deixaram vestígios, registos documentais para memória futura, de alguém que um dia os quis ler e conhecer.

We all have a past, a history and story, a family in which we were born and welcomed by destiny. It is in this family, with all its vicissitudes, weaknesses, greatness and all its assets, material and human, that we find ourselves, because our family history does not begin only on the day we were born. If we only have this in mind, our birth, we will be uprooted, from people and places, without the sense of belonging to a place, to a family. It is good to know that we are the result of so many stories, of love, of disaffection, of lives more or less fulfilled, that have crossed centuries and generations until they reach us. All these generations, these men and women,” fruit” of a time, of a momentum, of a circumstance ,so well- defined by Ortega y Gasset, had lives that the written records, always the records, witnessed and allowed the following generations to know , and perhaps, if they are people of affection, see them as a heritage, which is also genetic- theirs. It was in this sense, and based on the written records that have reached our days that we proposed to know family Alves, which is our paternal family. Always following the male line, which is in our direct ancestry, we sought to give life to these men, and also women (some of whom well distant in time), know them better and at the time they lived. A time that embraces four distinct centuries, and therefore different epochs, although the place is always the same, Requião. As it was always the written records that gave the motto to the research and directed it to the options taken, this work focused on the study of a life story of a family, with their individuals, some of whom with public life and therefore with much more information resulting from a larger number of sources where their activity was registered. Aware that there are other many files like this, of ordinary people, as is the case of this family, without the aristocratic ancestry of great nobility houses, which by themselves are synonymous of large and rich family files, and that it is in the detailed and vast information of an individual and family daily life that is the story of a people ,we venture not only to do a list of names that prefigure a family tree but to go further, bringing to light individuals who, in one way or another, marked their presence in time and space, and left traces, documentary records for future memory, for someone that would like to read and know about them.
