Perfis de voluntários em Portugal: motivações e fatores sociodemográficos

Abstract

Introdução: O número de voluntários tem vindo a crescer expressivamente desde a Idade Média bem como o seu papel na sociedade. É comumente designado como uma forma de participação cívica dos sujeitos na sociedade, sendo que pode apresentar diferentes efeitos, formatos e motivações. Objetivo: O presente estudo pretende identificar perfis de voluntários em Portugal tendo em conta as motivações para realização de voluntariado e os fatores sociodemográficos. Método: Foram analisados 271 voluntários em Portugal que procederam ao preenchimento de um Questionário Sociodemográfico e ao Inventário de Motivações para o Voluntariado. Os dados foram analisados através da análise de clusters. Resultados: Identificaram-se três clusters de voluntários, sendo que as variáveis com maior poder discriminativo entre clusters foram a idade e a subfunção carreira das motivações para o voluntariado. Esta investigação contribuiu para alargar o conhecimento relativamente à caraterização dos voluntários em Portugal.

Introduction: The number of volunteers has been growing significantly since the Middle Ages as well as their role in society. It is commonly referred to as a form of civic participation of subjects in society, and it can have different effects, formats and motivations. Objective: This study aims to identify profiles of volunteers in Portugal taking into account the motivations for volunteering and sociodemographic factors. Method: 271 volunteers in Portugal who completed a Sociodemographic Questionnaire and the Volunteer Motivation Inventory were analyzed. The data were analyzed through cluster analysis. Results: Three clusters of volunteers were identified, and the variables with the greatest discriminative power between clusters were age and the career subfunction of motivations for volunteering. This investigation contributed to broaden the knowledge regarding the characterization of volunteers in Portugal.
