Um olhar sobre o mundo da farmacologia: tradução da Norma ISO 11616 (Identificação de medicamentos)

Abstract

A importância crescente da atividade de tradução e dos próprios Estudos de Tradução, enquanto disciplina teórica, resultam de um contexto de globalização mundial que exige que a informação seja disponibilizada a todos em tempo útil e com qualidade de excelência. Conceitos como qualidade, especialização temática, terminologia e normalização andam inexoravelmente ligados ao fenómeno da tradução. Foi dentro deste contexto, e mais concretamente no domínio médico-farmacêutico, que surgiu o meu projeto de estágio e consequentemente o respetivo relatório de estágio. O presente relatório de estágio foi realizado no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução e Comunicação Multilingue. Assumindo um caráter freelancer, o estágio foi efetuado em regime não presencial, com início a 1 de dezembro de 2018, terminando aquando da data final de entrega do presente relatório, 22 de junho de 2020. Este estágio surgiu de uma proposta feita por mim e pelo professor doutor Fernando Ferreira Alves ao IPQ (Instituto Português da Qualidade), em parceria com a CT199 (Comissão Técnica) e consistiu na tradução completa da Norma Internacional ISO 11616, assim como da tradução do ponto 3 (Termos, definições e abreviaturas), das outras quatro normas (ISO 11238, ISO 11239, ISO 11240 e ISO 11615), que em conjunto, atuam no controlo da identificação e produção de medicamentos. Estas cinco normas formam a base para um sistema de identificação de medicamentos a nível global. A reflexão bioética, que nestes últimos anos tem tido uma grande relevância, deve estar direcionada para a saúde humana, tanto do ponto de vista individual como coletivo, no sentido que também neste campo haja de facto uma verdadeira igualdade de acesso e uniformização de procedimentos. E essa igualdade passa sem dúvida pela questão da falsificação de fármacos. Só a publicação de normas, como as que eu me propus traduzir, poderá controlar a nível mundial a segurança na produção e distribuição de fármacos, assegurando a não adulteração das embalagens de medicamentos, através da implementação de um dispositivo de segurança; a identificação da embalagem original de identificação de um medicamento pela inclusão do Identificador único; o rastreamento dos fármacos, dentro do mercado europeu, a partir de um sistema de repositório europeu e nacional. A realização do meu projeto de estágio permitiu-me este “olhar sobre o mundo da farmacologia”, enriquecendo-me enquanto cidadão e enquanto aspirante a tradutor profissional.

The growing importance of the translation activity, as well as of the Translation Studies discipline, as a theoretical subject, derives from the globalization context, which requires information availability for all, with quality and on time. Concepts such as quality, specialization, terminology and standardization are inexorably linked with the translation phenomenon. My internship project and its corresponding report took place within this context, more specifically in the medical and pharmaceutical domains. This report was carried out within the scope of the Masters in Translation and Multilingual Communication. The internship was conducted on a non-present basis and it started on the 1st of December of 2018 and ended on the 22nd of June of 2020. This internship emerged from a proposal, made by professor Fernando Ferreira Alves and myself, to the IPQ (Portuguese Institute for Quality), jointly with the CT199 (Technical Commission). It consisted in the full translation of the International Standard 11616, as well as the translation of section 3 (Terms, definitions and abbreviations) of the other four International Standards (ISO 11238, ISO 11239, ISO 11240 and ISO 11615) that, together, are aimed at controlling the identification and production of medicinal products. These five standards provide the basis for an identification system for medicinal products, worldwide. The bioethical reflection, which in the past few years has been of great importance and relevance, should be directed towards human health, both from the individual and collective points of view, in order to obtain equal access and standardisation of procedures in this domain. The concern for equal access relates to the issue of falsified medicines. Only the publication of standards, like the ones that I have translated, can safely control the production and distribution of medicinal products worldwide. The standards ensure that the packaging of the medicinal products isn’t adulterated through the implementation of a security device. They also assure the identification of the original packaging of the medicinal product through a unique identifier and guarantee the traceability of medicinal products, within the European market, through a national and european repository system. The completion of my internship allowed me this “glance at the world of pharmacology” which enriched me as a citizen and as a future professional translator.
