Mangá: um estudo comparativo entre as categorias histórica e psicológica

Abstract

Nesta tese é estudado o mangá em dois dos seus registos. O mangá é a forma específica da banda desenhada japonesa cujas origens estão não só nos antecedentes históricos nipónicos em formas literárias ancestrais mas também nas influências francobelgas e americanas, dos quais depois são traçadas as diferenças. Ao longo da tese é explicado o lugar do mangá dentro da cultura japonesa, a sua formação e estrutura assim como impacto na sociedade contemporânea. É estudado e explicado o registo histórico, as suas regras e limitações, e de que forma é que os mangás escolhidos para análise, Vagabond e Kingdom, podem ser considerados como tais expondo as suas principais características narratológicas. O mesmo se realiza para o registo psicológico, traçando comparações com obras literárias, tal como foi feito no registo histórico, onde de seguida é introduzida a análise dos mangás, Monster e Death Note, onde se estuda os elementos narratológicos que destacam estas B.D.s como pertencentes ao registo. Feitas as análises é depois iniciada a comparação dos mangás onde são expostas as suas características mais notórias e que entram em contraste, ou em concordância, umas com as outras, podendo assim traçar pontos em comum dentro dos mangás expondo assim a evidência de que existem pilares de criação narrativa comuns neste tipo de B.D..

In this thesis it is studied manga, the Japanese comic, whose foundations settle not only on its historical background in its own history and culture but also on the influences it received from its fellow geolinguistcal relatives, the franc-Belgian bande dessinée and the American comic, of which, later on, their proximities and differences are traced and studied. Throughout this thesis it is explained how manga came to be, inside its own culture, its modern constituents and the impact it has on Japanese modern society and on a global scale Then it’s employed the analysis and study of the historical register: it’s constituents, rules and limitations and in which way the chosen mangas, Vagabond and Kingdom, are a part of it, tracing and discerning the important characteristics they have to, and do, possess. The same kind of analysis is then placed on the psychological: using even literary works, the same way it was done on the historical, to better categorize it and describe it – so that afterwards the chose manga, Monster and Death Note, can be evaluated as such. With the analysis done, it is then proceeded to the comparison of the mangas, where their constituents and characteristics are exposed so that it’s revealed their points in disagreement and those where they do coincide.
