Radiografar o manual escolar: uma abordagem propiciadora das aprendizagens em Biologia do 10.º ano de escolaridade

Abstract

O manual escolar constituiu o elemento central de uma intervenção pedagógica que se carateriza pela operacionalização de processos de interpretação, individual e cooperativa, da estrutura, função e conteúdo das várias secções que o enformam. A intervenção pedagógica foi desenvolvida na disciplina de Biologia e Geologia com um grupo de 29 alunos, no ano letivo de 2011/2012, a frequentar o 10.º ano. Consistiu, fundamentalmente, na operacionalização de dois tipos de atividades de aprendizagem: 1) o primeiro tipo incluiu uma única atividade, orientada para a compreensão do modo como as várias secções do manual escolar se interligam e da função educativa que lhes está subjacente, 2) o segundo tipo compreendeu um conjunto de quatro atividades, focalizadas na promoção da capacidade de exploração educativa do manual escolar. A avaliação da intervenção pedagógica efetuou-se a partir da análise de dados, obtidos através das atividades de aprendizagem e de questionários aplicados aos alunos, e recorrendose a procedimentos de cariz qualitativo e quantitativo. Os resultados obtidos apontam o contributo da estratégia de intervenção pedagógica na sustentação ou na construção da visão do manual escolar como um instrumento de suporte e de orientação da aprendizagem. Os alunos apontaram também o contributo da intervenção pedagógica no desenvolvimento da compreensão da organização do manual escolar, no desenvolvimento da capacidade de utilização do manual escolar e na consciencialização do valor educativo do manual escolar. A valorização diferenciada por eles atribuída às atividades de aprendizagem focalizadas na compreensão da estrutura e da função do manual escolar bem como no desenvolvimento da capacidade de manipulação do manual escolar aponta a necessidade de incrementar atividades de reflexão orientadas para o incremento da consciencialização dos alunos acerca da importância educativa de cada uma dessas atividades de aprendizagem, promovendo-se a compreensão de que todas desempenham um papel educativo relevante.

The textbook is the central element of a pedagogical intervention that is characterized by the operationalization of individual and cooperative interpretation processes, structure, function and content of the various sections that make it up. The pedagogical intervention was developed in the discipline of Biology and Geology with a group of 29 students, in the academic year 2011/2012, attending the 10th grade. It is consisted in the operationalization of two types of learning activities: 1) the first type included only one activity, oriented to an understanding of how the various sections of the textbook interconnect and the educational function that underlies them, 2) the second type comprised a set of four activities, focused on promoting the educational exploitation capacity of the textbook. The evaluation of the pedagogical intervention was made from the data analysis, obtained through the learning activities and questionnaires applied to the students, and using qualitative and quantitative procedures. The results obtained point out the contribution of the pedagogical intervention strategy to the support or construction of the vision of the textbook as an instrument of support and orientation of the learning. The students also pointed out the contribution of the pedagogical intervention in the development of the understanding of the organization of the textbook, in the development of the capacity of use of the textbook and in the awareness of the educational value of the textbook. The differentiated value attributed by them to the learning activities focused on understanding the structure and function of the textbook as well as on the development of the manipulation capacity of the textbook points out the need to increase reflection activities aimed at increasing the students awareness of the educational importance of each of these learning activities, promoting the understanding that they all play a relevant educational role.
