O Clitofonte de Platão: são os filósofos inúteis no ensino da justiça?: estudo e tradução

Abstract

Clitophon is the dialogue that precedes the Republic in the traditional organization from Trasyllus, and shares with Plato’s most famous work both thematic and dramatic characteristics. The shortest text of the Corpus Platonicum is now gaining acceptance as an authentic dialogue of Plato’s. The most recent studies state their belief in the dialogue’s authenticity and no one in the ancient tradition appears to have questioned this dialogue. The paper includes, along with an introduction that presents briefly the state of the research on the question of authenticity, an interpretive essay, and the first Portuguese translation of this much-ignored dialogue. Th is short but very interesting piece presents by the mouth of Clitophon the case against the Socratic teachings.

O Clitofonte é o diálogo que precede a República na organização tradicional de Trasilo em tetralogias, e apresenta afi nidades dramáticas e temáticas evidentes com o mais famoso diálogo de Platão. O mais curto dos textos do Corpus Platonicum tem ganho aceitação como um diálogo autêntico. Os estudos filológicos mais recentes afi rmam a autenticidade do diálogo e ninguém na tradição antiga o pôs em questão. Este artigo inclui, com uma introdução que apresenta o estado da questão sobre a autenticidade e a data, um ensaio interpretativo e a primeira tradução para português deste diálogo esquecido. Esta breve mas interessante peça apresenta, pela boca de Clitofonte, o caso contra os ensinamentos de Sócrates.
