Depois da prisão: a reintegração social de idosos

Abstract

A presente investigação tem como principal objetivo estudar a problemática da reintegração social de idosos após estarem em reclusão e entender de que forma a sua reabilitação à sociedade pode tornar-se num processo mais simples e bem-sucedido. O interesse investigativo deste tema surge devido à pouca informação e estudos representativos sobre a população-alvo deste trabalho. Para a realização deste estudo, foi empregue uma análise qualitativa, de caráter puramente documental, para que seja possível analisar e comparar diferentes perspetivas presentes em inúmeras investigações desenvolvidas a nível mundial. Em primeiro lugar, estudou-se, de forma aprofundada, a realidade do envelhecimento na sociedade e na prisão no contexto português, europeu e mundial e, em segunda instância, as consequências que o encarceramento acarreta aquando da reintegração social destes indivíduos. Numa fase posterior, foram selecionados alguns países, tais como Portugal, Espanha, Reino Unido e Estados Unidos da América, com o intuito de entender quais as medidas específicas que cada um deles adota em relação aos desafios da reinserção social de idosos. Seguidamente e, de acordo com a informação recolhida em relação à realidade dos diferentes países, foram escolhidas algumas medidas que poderiam eventualmente ser aplicadas em Portugal de forma a facilitar o processo de reintegração social. Em conclusão, pode afirmar-se que apesar do aumento do número de reclusos idosos em meio prisional, a sua visibilidade e as medidas aplicadas para a sua adaptação social apresentam ainda inúmeras questões a serem trabalhadas. Contudo, o número de investigações, artigos e reportagens em relação a esta problemática têm ganho maior visibilidade tanto a nível nacional como internacional.

The present investigation has as its main goal to study the problem of social reintegration of elderly inmates and understand how their rehabilitation into society can become a simpler and successful process. The investigative interest of this subject emerges due to the lack of information and representative studies about this population. To carry out this study, it was applied a qualitative analysis, and a purely documental approach so it is possible to analyse and compare different perspectives present in several investigations developed worldwide. In the first place, we have thoroughly studied the aging reality in society and in prison in the portuguese, european and world context and, secondly, the consequences that incarceration has regarding the social reintegration of this population. At a later stage, there were selected a few countries, such as Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom and United States of America with the purpose of understanding what specific measures each of them adopts in relation of the challenges of social reintegration of elderly prisoners. Afterwards, and according to the information collected within the reality of each country, there were some measures selected that can eventually be applied in Portugal to facilitate the process of social reintegration. In conclusion, it is possible to claim that despite the increasing number of elderly people in the prison environment, their visibility and measures applied to their social adaptation still have some questions to be worked on. On the other hand, the number of investigations, articles and reports about this problem have been gaining more visibility at a national and international level.
