Cidades e sistemas Wayfinding

Abstract

A responsabilidade do design no discurso contemporâneo da sustentabilidade em práticas sociais conscientes é uma inevitabilidade. No contexto urbano, verifica-se a exigência de equacionar o papel do designer enquanto comunicador de espaços urbanos habitados e vivenciados. No contexto das vivências e fruição das cidades pelos seus cidadãos, em particular da terceira idade, urge equacionar de que modo os sistemas wayfinding promovem estas práticas. Aceitando o desafio de pensar o design a partir da sustentabilidade, a proposta deste trabalho é a de proceder a uma revisão da literatura sobre a evolução da cidade, estabelecendo um paralelo com a dos sistemas wayfinding, o envelhecimento da população e o conceito de “Cidades Amigas dos Idosos” Este levantamento bibliográfico permitiu entender o paralelismo na evolução destes conceitos, e a necessidade crescente dos sistemas wayfinding na promoção de acessibilidades.

The responsibility of design in the contemporary discourse of sustainability in conscious social practices is an inevitability. In the urban context, there is a need to equate the role of the designer as a communicator of inhabited and experienced urban spaces. In the context of the experiences and enjoyment of cities by their citizens, particularly the elderly, it is urgent to consider how wayfinding systems promote these practices. Accepting the challenge of thinking about design from sustainability, the purpose of this paper is to review the literature on the evolution of the city, establishing a parallel with that of the wayfinding systems, the aging of the population and the concept of "Age Friendly Cities". This bibliographic survey allowed us to understand the parallelism in the evolution of these concepts, and the increasing need of wayfinding systems in the promotion of accessibility.
