O mito e a realidade atual da emigração dos vieirenses para Zurique

Abstract

Tomando por base o –nunca acabado- fenómeno da emigração e a sua evolução através dos tempos, este trabalho debruça-se sobre o tema, a partir dos anos 2008, ano em que a crise económica e financeira veio estremecer estruturas familiares e sociais mais frágeis, transformando-se numa espécie de último reduto para grande parte das pessoas que se preparavam para a entrada no mercado de trabalho, bem como a escassez de emprego daí resultante, afetou a todos de alguma forma, empurrando os portugueses, de novo, para uma situação de êxodo. Os vieirenses -população alvo deste estudo- correm assim, em direção a terras helvéticas, mais concretamente para Zurique (Suíça). Inicia aqui a “nova diáspora”, com origem na fragilidade económica de Portugal despoletada pela crise que emergia. Procurou-se identificar as motivações de saída de Portugal e de entrada na Suíça (Zurique), caraterizando os processos e os mecanismos de receção e integração na Suíça, em termos de mercado de trabalho e em termos sociais, em geral. Nesse sentido, procedeu-se à elaboração de uma tabela interpretativa baseada em narrativas dos participantes alvo deste estudo, sobre as políticas de cooperação existentes entre os dois países, adiantando uma reflexão sobre a tipologia dos fluxos de emigração para a Suíça e as suas modalidades de expressão em ambos os espaços. Cruzando as abordagens sobre a sociedade de acolhimento, as suas implicações em termos dos mercados de trabalho, assim como abordagens sobre os processos de relacionamento e integração. O desenvolvimento deste estudo está direcionado para uma perceção mais atualizada no que concerne ao conhecimento desta tipologia nos dias de hoje, aludindo à amplitude e solidez relativa ao mais recente fenómeno de saídas, “fuga” de portugueses da região de Vieira do Minho para a Suíça (Zurique), procurando atualizar dados que têm permanecido adormecidos em “mitos” sobre a velha/nova diáspora do séc. XXI.

Based on the – never finished - phenomenon of emigration and its evolution through the ages, this project deals with the economic and financial crisis that started in 2008 and shook the more fragile family and social structures, making emigration a sort of last resort for most people preparing to enter into the labour market, as well as the resulting job shortages that affected everybody in some way, pushing the Portuguese, again, to a situation of exodus. The population of the Vieira do Minho village - the target population of this study- flee towards Zürich, Switzerland. The "new diaspora" begins here, originating in Portugal’s economic fragility and triggered by the emerging crisis. We sought to identify the motivations for leaving Portugal and entering Switzerland (Zurich), by characterizing the processes and mechanisms of reception and integration in Switzerland, in terms of the labour market and in more general social terms. In this sense, an interpretative table was elaborated based on the narratives of the target subjects of this study, about existing cooperation policies between the two countries, a reflection on the typology of the flows of emigration to Switzerland and its modes of expression in both spaces. I intend to cross the approaches on the host society, discover its implications in terms of labour markets, and how it affects the relationship and integration processes. The development of this study is intended to update the knowledge of this typology, alluding to the breadth and solidity on the more recent phenomenon of emigrations (the "escape" of Portuguese from the Vieira do Minho village to Zurich, Switzerland), looking for updated data that has remained asleep in "myths" about the old/new diaspora.
