Abstract(s)Azachrysenes are aromatic tetracyclic structures where one carbon atom is replaced by nitrogen in any symmetrically distinct position of the fused aromatic ring. They can be considered analogs of azasteroids, with recognized potential as drug candidates. The present review surveys the work carried out over the last three decades on the synthesis of mono-, di-, tri- and penta-azachryzene derivatives. Although a diversity of synthetic approaches were described in the literature, there are no recent review articles on this subject.
