Arquitectura Circense em movimento: a permanência intermitente do Circo Victor Hugo Cardinali

Abstract

A dissertação Arquitectura Circense em movimento: a permanência intermitente do Circo Victor Hugo Cardinali consiste numa reflexão sobre o tema do circo, enquanto comunidade que habita lugares diferentes, e que por sua vez, é habitado por um grupo itinerante. Interpretado como um lugar nómada que percorre o território, o Circo Victor Hugo Cardinali vai ocupando, e deixando, de forma efémera e transitória, os sítios que escolhe para a montagem dos seus acampamentos. Neste contexto, o Circo segue uma rota, previamente traçada, na qual se abrangem uma série de cidades a percorrer durante o ano da temporada em questão. A instalação desta comunidade circense faz-se de forma sequencial segundo um Ciclo Circense, que repetido de forma sistemática perfaz uma tournée. Um Ciclo Circense é constituído pela sucessão das etapas Mover, Chegar, Estar e Partir. Cada uma destas etapas é abordada sob a forma de capítulo, procurando-se, assim, um fio condutor que esclareça o funcionamento do Circo e o seu estilo de vida. A cada capítulo, observa-se o Circo a uma escala diferente, sendo que, ao desenvolvimento do trabalho corresponde uma aproximação de escala, partindo da escala territorial, por onde o circo se move, à escala da cidade à qual o Circo chega, até focar nos elementos que o constituem enquanto está montado, habitando o espaço. Por fim, o Circo, enquanto evento, termina, desmonta e parte. Inicia-se um novo ciclo.

The thesis Circus Architecture in motion: the intermittent permanence of the Circus Victor Hugo Cardinali consists of a reflection on the theme of the circus, as a community that inhabits different places, and that in turn, is inhabited by a traveling group. Interpreted as a nomadic place that traverses the territory, the Circus Victor Hugo Cardinali goes occupying, and leaving behind, in a ephemeral and transient way, the sites that he chooses to set up his camps. In this context, the Circus follows a route, previously drawn, which covers a series of cities to go during the year of the season in question. The installation of this circus community is done in a sequential way according to a Circus Cycle, which repeated in a systematic way makes a tour. A Circus Cycle is constituted by the succession of the stages To Move, To Arrive, To Be and To Leave. Each one of these stages is approached in the form of a chapter, looking for, thus, a guiding thread that clarifies the operation of the Circus and its way of life. In each chapter, the Circus is observed on a different scale, and the development of the work corresponds to an approximation of scale, starting from the territorial scale, where the circus moves, to the scale of the city to which the Circus arrives, until focus on the elements that constitute it while it is assembled, inhabiting the space. Finally, the Circus, as an event, ends, dismounts and leaves. A new cycle begins.
