A análise é feita utilizando
rendibilidades diárias para o período 1992 a 2016. A sazonalidade diária é testada utilizando
forma fraca. This dissertation examines if the portuguese stock market is efficient in the weak form by checking the weekend effect on the PSI20 index. The analysis is done using daily returns for a sample period from 1992 to 2016. Daily seasonality is tested using non-parametric tests such as the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Brown-Forsythe test, and parametric tests. In the parametric tests, both GARCH and GJR-GARCH models are analyzed from the total sample and sectional perspective. When testing the effect on the sample as a whole, both the non-parametric tests and the parametric tests showed the existence of the weekend effect and the day-of-the-week effect. Taking into account the analysis made to the sub-periods of the sample, there is no evidence of the effects. As the weekend effect and the day-of-the-week effect are not consistent, and the results of the rolling window regressions prevail, we conclude that the portuguese stock market is efficient in the weak form. |
