Há influência da valência emocional na recordação de informações visuais?

Abstract

Devido à controvérsia quanto ao efeito da emoção na memória operatória visual, pretendeu-se, com este estudo, explorar o efeito que as emoções têm na mesma. Para isso realizou-se uma indução emocional a partir de imagens e músicas e, para testar a memória visual operatória utilizou-se uma tarefa probed recall. Neste estudo, participaram cento e vinte e sete estudantes universitários. Estes foram induzidos emocionalmente numa determinada condição (negativa, positiva e neutra) e realizaram a tarefa de memória, que estava dividida em duas partes tendo cada uma delas cento e cinquenta ensaios. Em sessenta participantes induzidos eficazmente e que não apresentaram sintomatologia depressiva ou de ansiedade, não foram encontradas diferenças quanto ao efeito da emoção na memória operatória visual. No entanto, quanto à eficácia do atraso de um segundo na memória operatória visual os participantes obtiveram melhor desempenho nos ensaios que tinham um atraso de um segundo quando comparados com os ensaios de linha de base (sem atraso). Em suma, na amostra deste estudo, a indução emocional não teve efeito tanto na capacidade quanto na qualidade da memória operatória visual, possivelmente devido a aspetos metodológicos.

Due to the controversy regarding the effect of emotion on visual operative memory, it was intended with this study to explore this effect. Therefore, an emotional induction was given with images and music and, to test the visual working memory it was used a probed recall task. One hundred and twenty-seven undergraduate students participated in this study. They were emotionally induced in one of three conditions (negative, positive and neutral) and completed a memory task that was divided in two parts, having one of one hundred and fifty trials each. In sixty participants effectively induced and who didn’t show any depressive or anxious symptoms, no effect of emotion on the visual operative memory was found. However, in terms of the efficacy of the one second delay in the visual working memory the participants obtained a better performance in the trials that had the one second delay when compared to the baseline trials (no delay). Overall, in the sample of this study, the emotional induction didn’t affect neither the capacity nor the quality of the visual working memory, possibly due to methodological aspects.
