tecnologias. As observações participativas, questionários, entrevistas e documentos escritos
Due to the high rates of disapproval related to the subject Differential and Integral Calculus in undergraduate courses, there is a growing interest in this research area. In this thesis, we investigated an unusual and underexplored practice in the teaching process which has the objective of presenting to the students a sequence of exploring and investigating tasks with technology support. Our objective was to evaluate how students evolve in the discipline from the implementation of tasks, how they use technological resources and the difficulties faced in this work. With the support of mathematical software, the students explored a sequence of wide range tasks with the purpose of applying some knowledge, enhancing others and introducing themes of the curricular grade. The exploratory and investigative methodology can efficiently associated with the expository moments, diversifying and improving the subject teaching process. In this research, we look for the theoretical support of mathematical explorations and investigations by using technological resources in relevant problems. This combination is an important mechanism for the discovery-based learning. The introduction of the informatics in the classroom, besides its important motivational aspects, allows more dynamical exploration of the knowledge by using modern technologies. When the student learning process is based on the knowledge construction, it becomes more significant and it has a long-term behavior. Furthermore, it is less easily forgotten. The methodology used in this research was inserted in the perspective descriptive and interpretative, constituting a case study in the vision of the teacher/research. From this proposed methodology, the experimental structure was compounded by the application of tasks in groups and a careful observation of the evolution of the students, considering the learning aspects as well as scenarios of difficulties and overcoming, including the use of technologies. Participatory observations, questionnaires, interviews and written documents constituted effective instruments for this assessment. Based on this study, it was possible to state the potentialities of the exploratory tasks combined with technology support. It contributes with the teaching of Integral and Differential Calculus. These potentialities contains a diversity of topics − even considering the historical panoramic − and allows the students: the possibility to approach, from the numeric, graphic and analytical point of view, a series of relevant in-context problems; to develop typical skills of the mathematical investigative process; sharing knowledge and cooperating with the construction of the knowledge in small groups and work actively in the learning process. The results of this research strongly corroborate the benefits of the exploratory activities in the students learning and indicates unhesitatingly its regular use in the teaching of Calculus. |
