The objective of this internship report is to define the market in which E.Leclerc de Famalicão operates and understand how the strategy implemented by this company is coping with the needs of the market and its own needs. In order to analyse the market we chose Porter'sfive force model and the strategy evaluation will be conducted by using a SWOT analisys, which focus on the internal and external factors. The data used in this report is mainly obtained through informal interviews with the managers of the company and employees. The company also granted access to their client card database and additionally, a client survey was developed in order to gather the opinion of its clients. The database analysis and the client survey were two of the main tasks during the internship. However, due to confidentiality, only some parts of these analysis are included in this report. The market analysis indicated that the company operates in a local market and that the market structure is a highly concentrated oligopoly where a small number of companies (E.Leclerc and Jumbo) control the market. Porter five forces model showed that the rivalry within the industry and the threat of substitute products are the forces with the highest impact on this market. The strategic analysis showed that E.Leclerc has many opportunities that might allow the company to improve its weaknesses and at the same time, reduce the threats that exist in this market. Despite the intense competition in this market, E.Leclerc still manages to occupy a certain dominant position in the market. However, the company has many points that need to be improved and the threats identified in this report must be continuously monitored and resolved so that the company is less vulnerable to possible market changes and unexpected actions by its competitors.
