Práticas de tradução na KvaliText: o quotidiano de um tradutor especializado em contexto empresarial

Abstract

Este relatório insere-se no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução e Comunicação Multilingue da Universidade do Minho e analisa a Tradução Especializada à luz de um estágio curricular de quatro meses realizado numa empresa profissional de tradução. Para tal, o presente relatório foi teoricamente enquadrado nos Estudos de Tradução, uma disciplina científica recente que tem como objeto de estudo a tradução nas suas várias formas, e onde o papel da tradução e do tradutor especializados foram discutidos. A empresa, a equipa e o papel do orientador interno foram igualmente alvo de análise. A certificação da empresa pela norma europeia de tradução EN 15038:2006 assumiu um papel preponderante para a realização do presente relatório; por conseguinte, esta norma foi analisada pormenorizadamente. Foram discutidos e analisados a metodologia utilizada, os recursos da empresa, os problemas tradutórios e a questão da tradução para português do Brasil. A realização deste relatório demonstrou a importância das ferramentas de tradução assistida por computador e das memórias de tradução no domínio da Tradução Especializada e a relevância fundamental da norma europeia de tradução EN 15038:2006 como ferramenta de verificação da qualidade de qualquer projeto de tradução. O futuro da Tradução Especializada e, em particular, da tradução profissional parece apontar para a introdução progressiva da tradução automática em virtude do tradutor humano.

This report falls within the scope of the masters programme "Mestrado em Tradução e Comunicação Multilingue", at the University of Minho. It analyzes Specialized Translation within the framework of a four-month curricular internship which took place in a professional translation company. In order to achieve it, this report was analyzed within the Translation Studies' theoretical framework. Translation Studies is a relatively new area of inquiry which studies translation in its various forms. The roles of the specialized translator and the specialized translation alike were discussed. The company, the team and the role of the internal teaching practice supervisor were analyzed as well. The company's certification by the EN 15038:2006 standard was of paramount importance to the execution of the present report and, therefore, this standard was more closely observed. The methodology used, the company's resources, the translation issues and the particular issue of translating into Brazilian Portuguese were all discussed and analyzed. The execution of this report has shown the importance of computer-assisted translation tools and translation memories within the framework of specialized translation, as well as the great significance of the EN 15038:2006 standard as a quality assurance tool in any translation project. The future of specialized translation and in particular of professional translation seems to suggest the progressive introduction of machine translation through the replacement of the human translator.
