The trend figures for an ever-increasing growth of individuals who ask for help to the treatment of dependencies linked to drugs (licit and illicit). Drug addiction and alcoholism are very problematic, not only for those who use and abuse of their consumption, but also to those that surround these consumers, we are talking here particularly of their families, who live daily with them. The available studies on this issue suggest that the support of the family will be able to intervene in the process of social reintegration of these populations, towards a better social integration, however the many painful years passed with these consumers often lead to an abandonment and lack of interest on the part of the family. However, we believe that the close monitoring of family members during the treatment process can dictate the success or failure of treatment, or partly accelerates it or slow it down upon the presence or absence of family support. The aim of this research goes precisely for this discussion, realize that they have the support of dependent family when undergo a treatment, and what is the influence that the presence, or absence, on the other hand can have this treatment process. These problematics can be seen from different perspectives, however, and taking as an sociological vision, we address this matter in the light of the Sociology of Deviance, and as such as a deviation to the social norm. For this same reason and beyond point out all the self-exclusion process in which the dependent emerge, we discussed also the social exclusion process that these populations are subject by society after receiving the label of “stoned” and “drunk”. The particular study of this dissertation was performed at the institute of Social Reintegration of Centro de Solidariedade Social/Projecto Homem, with the participation of ten individuals permanent residents in the institution, five of them with alcohol problems and the other five with drug issues. This study concluded that the distance of the family in relation to the consumer in is treatment process may, in some ways, complicate the process of social rehabilitation.por
