cabo-verdiana. Assim, a presente dissertação pretendeu colmatar estas lacunas.
O presente trabalho é constituído por quatro estudos. O primeiro estudo procura
This work seeks to characterize the phenomenon of juvenile delinquency in Cape Verde, and aimed specifically to identify and understand the antisocial behavior of young Cape Verdeans in the light of the socio-cultural context in which they are inserted. The phenomenon of crime is now a social problem that is gaining visibility in Western societies. The literature and research point that juvenile delinquency and crime have proliferated, presenting worrying prevalence levels. In Cape Verde, official statistics have been documenting an increase in antisocial behavior in general and juvenile delinquency in particular. However, there are only official statistics, not existing empirical studies that use adapted and validated instruments for the Cape Verdean youth. Thus, this thesis intended to fill these gaps. This work comprises four studies. The first study present a socio-geographic characterization of juvenile delinquency in Cape Verde, searching to understand the way the city of Praia is (dis) organized urban and socially, and discussing whether these aspects are (or not) facilitators for deviant behaviors and juvenile delinquency. In the second empirical study we proceeded to with adaptation of a questionnaire validated the Cape Verdean context, the "International Self-Report Delinquency - ISRD-3". The results indicate that the Cape Verdean version of the ISRD-3 raveled valid psychometric characteristics. In the third study, we sought to characterize juvenile delinquency in Cape Verde, from the administration of the ISRD-3 to a sample of 601young people. The results indicated that boys aged between 16 and 21, who attended the 9th and 12th grade, perpetrated most of the delinquent behavior. In the fourth study, we sought to identify the factors that predict antisocial behaviors of perpetration in Cape Verde. The sample consisted of 535 students of both sexes attending public education in Cape Verde. The results show that the male gender is more likely to commit antisocial behavior. Similarly, although results were not so robust, the perpetrators revealed a high probability to engage in disruptive activities during their leisure time. We finalize this research making an integrative conclusion. |
