Problemas de otimização matemática no estudo das derivadas numa turma do 12º ano de escolaridade

Abstract

Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a resolução de problemas de otimização no estudo das derivadas numa turma do 12.º ano de escolaridade, havendo o particular interesse de estimular os alunos mostrando a aplicabilidade deste tema no seu dia-a-dia. Foi seguida uma metodologia de natureza qualitativa com recurso a um estudo de caso, a turma de 12º ano. As questões de investigação que orientaram este estudo foram as seguintes: (1) Quais as dificuldades dos alunos nos processos de resolução de problemas de otimização? (2) Qual a importância que os alunos atribuem aos problemas de otimização? Para dar resposta a estas questões recorreu-se a diferentes métodos de recolha de dados: questionários; análise documental; e observação em contexto de aulas. Na análise foram utilizados quatro problemas de otimização, dos quais três foram realizados em grupos e um individualmente. Esta estratégia de trabalho, com recurso a problemas de otimização, foi bem aceite por parte dos alunos e revelou-se importante para as suas aprendizagens. O estudo realizado permitiu concluir que as principais dificuldades verificadas após a análise dos dados foram a interpretação dos problemas e os cálculos da segunda derivada de uma função. O estudo revela a necessidade de aprofundar mais este tema na formação dos alunos. Devem criar-se condições ao longo dos três anos do ensino secundário, não se restringindo apenas ao 12º ano de escolaridade, de resolver problemas do quotidiano, e em particular a resolução de problemas de otimização. Estes irão contribuir para o desenvolvimento do raciocínio e para uma maior autonomia dos alunos. Os constrangimentos foram alguns, mas é de salientar que as tarefas escolhidas não foram suficientemente desafiantes para desenvolver essas capacidades nos alunos e responder às questões de investigação com maior confiança.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the resolution of optimization problems in the study of derivatives in a 12th grade class, with the particular interest in encouraging students by demonstrating the applicability of this theme in their daily life. A qualitative methodology using a case study was followed, a 12 year class. The investigation questions that guided this study were the following: (1) What are the difficulties of the students in the process of solving optimization problems? (2) What is the importance that students attach to optimization problems? To answer these questions different methods to collect data were applied: questionnaires; document analysis; and direct observation in the context of the class. In this analysis, four optimization problems were used, three of which were conducted in groups and one individually. This work strategy, using optimization problems, was well accepted by the students and proved to be important for their learning process. The study concluded that the main difficulties encountered after the data analysis were the interpretation of problems and calculations of the second derivative of a function. The study demonstrates the need for further analysis in students education. There is a need to create conditions over the three years of secondary school, not only restrict them to the 12th grade in order to solve daily problems, and in particular the resolution of optimization problems. These may contribute to the development of reasoning and greater student autonomy. Some constraints were found, but it is important to note that the chosen tasks were not sufficiently challenging to develop these skills in the students and to answer the questions with greater confidence.
