This present report focuses on the project of pedagogical intervention, implemented during the internship. The intervention was carried out in a class of the 9th grade, with 27 students in the subject of Natural Science, in a school in the center of Braga. The main focus was "The human body in balance". A constructivist oriented teaching methodology for conceptual change was adopted. Having outlined the following goals: (1) a mapping of previous students' ideas about the blood, the heart and the cardiac cycle; (2) promote the development of students ideas on the selected theme privileging the development of laboratory activities; (3) to development the increasing of students previous ideas on the basis of the activities. In order to achieve the first objective, the students filled in a questionnaire of prior knowledge about the topic mentioned above (pre-test). To promote the awareness of students initial ideas and fulfill the second goal, three lab activities were realized, namely "Subdivison of the blood and observation of final preparations of human blood-smears", "Observation of static models of the heart" and the "cardiac cycle." Finally, after the pedagogical intervention, and to accomplish the third objective, the students answered a second questionnaire for detection of conceptions (post-test) in order to evaluate whether there was an improvement of their knowledge. The data analysis has shown that, initially, some of the students prior ideas were not coincident with the scientifically accepted, containing alternative conceptions. After the pedagogical intervention, one could verify an increasing of the frequency of responses scientifically acceptable and a descreasing of scientifically responses not acceptable leading to a significant improvement of previous ideas of the students. Laboratory activities proved to be relevant and effective. They allowed students to develop skills related to finding solutions to solve problems and to (re)construct their knowledge, allowing them to be more autonomous in their teaching and learning process. |
