A caridade em Braga: iniciativas da segunda metade do século XIX

Abstract

No presente trabalho procurámos estudar as iniciativas assistenciais surgidas em Braga na segunda metade do século XIX. Quem foi beneficiado e que tipo de serviços eram prestados foram algumas das questões a que procurámos dar resposta. Foi ainda nosso propósito conhecer as principais necessidades sentidas pelos indivíduos beneficiados por essas iniciativas. Também tivemos interesse em conhecer os intervenientes em todo este processo bem como as suas motivações. Diversos tipos de fontes serviram de base ao nosso estudo.

In this work we tried to study the assistence iniciatives that emerged in Braga in the second half of the XIXth century. We tried to answer to some questions such as "Who were the beneficiaries?", "What sort of services were given/done?". We also intended to know the main needs felt by the benefited ones. We were still interested in knowing the intervenients in this process as well as their motivations. Our study was based upon several channels of information.
