suavidade. The study of client’s experience allows the research of behavior patterns therapeutically productive between therapists and clients. Knowing the importance of the psychotherapy process variables, such as therapeutic alliance and collaboration, to the psychotherapeutic context, this master thesis, exploratory in nature, aimed to characterize the evolution of client’s experience in the first four psychotherapy sessions, through the client’s perspective, and to explore the effect of therapeutic alliance and collaboration on the evolution of client’s experience in the first four sessions. The study included eight clients diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, treated in individual brief cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy. The therapeutic alliance was analyzed using the Working Alliance Inventory, the therapeutic collaboration with the Therapeutic Collaboration Coding System and the client’s experience through the Session Evaluation Questionnaire. Results shows that arousal progressed increasingly through the first four sessions, that the agreement on goals contributed positively and the disinterest response from the client contributed negatively to the evaluation of session depth, and that challenging intervention from the therapist affected negatively the evaluation of smoothness. |
