Da formação e do voluntariado ao mercado de trabalho : um processo de emancipação profissional

Abstract

Este estágio pretendeu pôr em evidência a importância da Mediação Socioeducativa, funcionando como elo de ligação entre o Gabinete de Interação com a Sociedade do Instituto de Educação da Universidade do Minho, os/as (ex)alunos/as e o contexto social local. Atualmente, muitos estudos atribuem às Universidades uma responsabilidade acrescida devido à problemática do desemprego. Aliás, uma responsabilidade que tem sido recorrentemente afirmada nos meios de comunicação social. Assim, para além de ser importante que os indivíduos se sintam satisfeitos e realizados com a sua formação académica, é necessário que estes desenvolvam competências transversais que os diferencie dos restantes diplomados e que facilite a sua inserção profissional. Com base nestes pressupostos, foram inquiridos os/as licenciados/as em Educação para averiguar os seus índices de empregabilidade, as suas dificuldades na transição para o mercado de trabalho e as suas sugestões para melhorar essa transição, assim como o reconhecimento do curso. De forma a aprofundar esta componente de investigação foi entrevistado um dos mentores da Licenciatura em Educação na Universidade do Minho. Paralelamente, junto dos/as atuais alunos/as desta licenciatura foi aplicado um inquérito por questionário sobre as práticas e motivações para o exercício do voluntariado, de forma a que esses resultados permitissem compreender as potencialidades da criação de uma rede de voluntariado. Os resultados obtidos são interessantes: por um lado, demonstram baixos níveis de empregabilidade na área de formação e um défice de reconhecimento desta licenciatura; por outro lado, revelam baixas taxas de voluntariado dos/as atuais alunos/as, sendo que as suas motivações para estas atividades se encontravam ancoradas, principalmente, a funções de experiência e de carreira. Com base nestes resultados, ancorados ao espírito da democracia participativa, imputamos à Mediação o caminho para uma relação dialética entre os vários parceiros e instituições que integram a sociedade, relação essa que deverá contribuir para o desenvolvimento pessoal, profissional e social dos/as cidadãos/cidadãs, na base de processos de ensino-aprendizagem onde as tomadas de decisão e os significados atribuídos às ações que realizam se assumam como palavras-chaves desse processo.

The aim of my internship was to clarify the importance of Socio-educational Mediation, serving as a link between the Office for Interaction with Civil Society of the Institute of Education at University of Minho with former students and the local social context. Given the current concern of unemployment, many research studies delegate to Universities an increased responsibility. As a matter of fact, such a responsibility has been recurrently reasserted in the media. Hence, besides being important that people feel satisfied and accomplished with their academic training, it is also necessary that they develop soft skills that set them apart from other graduates, and that make their transition to the labor market easier. On the grounds of these assumptions, Education graduates were interviewed to analyze their employability rates, the difficulties they experienced in the transition to the labor market, and also, their suggestions to improve that transition, and the recognition given by employers and the labor market to their degree course. In order to deepen our knowledge about this research component, one of the mentors of the Education degree course at University of Minho was interviewed. Also, we conducted a survey with current students enrolled in the Education degree course, to find about their voluntary work experiences and their motivation to do voluntary work, so the resulting data could help understand the potentialities of creating a voluntary work network. The results of our study are interesting: on the one hand, data show that Education graduates have low employability rates in their academic training area, and that a recognition from employers and the labor market of this degree course is lacking; on the other hand, data show low rates of voluntary work from students currently enrolled in the Education degree course, and that their motivations to perform voluntary work concern essentially the purpose of experience and career. On the grounds of these results, and impelled by a spirit of participative democracy, we see Mediation as the path to reach a dialectic relationship between the many partners and institutions that integrate society, a relationship that must contribute for the personal, professional and social development of citizens on the base of teaching/learning processes, where individual decision making and the meaning of individual action are assumed to be key in this endeavor.
