Referência a estados mentais e Connectedness no discurso da mãe e da criança: relação com a teoria da mente da criança

Abstract

Este artigo pretende contribuir para a compreensão da teoria da mente das crianças tendo em conta o conteúdo (i.e referência a estados mentais) e qualidade do discurso (connectedness) das mesmas e de suas mães. Para tal foi analisado o discurso de 41 crianças (média = 55.15 meses) e suas mães, através a uma tarefa de elicitação narrativa com recurso ao livro “Frog, where are you?” de Mercer Mayer (1979). As crianças responderam também ao Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test e a um conjunto de tarefas da Teoria da Mente. Os resultados demonstraram associação entre a referência a estados mentais da mãe e da criança e, associação entre as orações conetadas proferidas pela mãe e pelo filho e o desempenho deste em tarefas da teoria da mente. No entanto, não foi encontrada relação entre as referências a estados mentais da díade e o desempenho da criança em tarefas da teoria da mente nem associação entre a referência a estados mentais da díade proferidas dentro de qualquer ligação do discurso, e o desempenho das crianças em tarefas da teoria da mente.

This article aims to contribute to the understanding of children's theory of mind in view of the contents (i.e mental states talk) and speech quality (connectedness) of themselves and their mothers. To achieve this purpose we analyzed the speech of 41 children (mean = 55.15 months) and their mothers through a narrative elicitation task using the book "Frog, where are you?" by Mercer Mayer (1979). Children responded to the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test and a set of tasks concerning the Theory of Mind. The results demonstrated an association between the reference to mental states of mother and child, and the association between mother's and child's connected utterances and child's performance in the theory of mind tasks. However, no relation was found between references to mental states of the dyad and the child's performance on theory of mind tasks or between the reference to mental states of the dyad within any given speech link, and the children's performance on tasks of theory of mind.
